Weapons (Inquisition)

Weapons in Dragon Age: Inquisition are the basis for combat in the game. They can either be found in the world, received as a reward for quests and war table operations, or crafted.

If found weapons will be either common, uncommon, rare, or unique. common and uncommon icons will be grey, rare will be blue, and unique icons are purple. Forged weapons have a yellow icon.

Weapons no longer require attributes to whield, instead they require players to be a certain level.

Use

Weapons use in Inquisition is quite different than in the rest of the series. It has been slowed from Dragon Age II and is no longer "hack and slash." The player no longer automatically locks on to opponents, instead they must lock on manually. The tactical camera is now available on all platforms. Weapons are still class restricted, though the player has greater freedom in choosing follower weapons, they are no longer restricted to just one type of weapon.

Crafting

To craft weapons the Inquisitor needs to find weapon schematics and enough raw materials. Once those have been acquired the Inquisitor must go to one of Harritt's forges where they select which schematic they want to use and which materials. Different materials produce different rates of damage and bonuses each weapon receives, and in the case of staves, what type of damage is dealt, be it fire, lightning, or frost. The amount of damage dealt by the weapon is based on the tier of the schematic and materials, the best tier of schematic being three and the best tier of material being four, which consists entirely dragon materials. After reaching Skyhold and procuring The Arcanist's services, the Inquisitor can choose to insert runes and/or choose to masterwork their weapons with special crafting materials.

Upgrading

Once a weapon has been found or forged it can be upgraded with runes, grips, blades, etc. This is done by crafting the accessory and then interacting with the anvil marked ""modify weapons."" From here you can change out a sword, bow, or stave's grip, staff blades, a two handed weapons grip or pommel, or arms or aiming modules for Bianca. Some weapons cannot be modified, there will simply be no slot for upgrades rather than runes. Also if a rune is placed, it can only be replaced, the former rune will be destroyed in the process.
