Vigilance is a reward from Worked to the Bone, which begins after an Eldest Dragonbone is found and presented to Wade. The master smith will ask for additional ingredients (Greater Warmth Balm, a Grandmaster Flame Rune, a Fresh Dragon Egg and a Diamond) to help in the creation of a masterpiece. The final item is determined by the choices made during a dialogue with the master smith.

Crafting Options

Unlike other crafted weapons, Master Wade uses a series of questions to assist in the customization of Vigilance. Vigilance can be either a longsword or a greatsword, however the bonuses are the same for either type of weapon.

Trivia

  • If the Warden-Commander has Wade craft Vigilance, it is mentioned in the epilogue.
  • Vigilance is the only greatsword with an asymmetrical design.
  • Vigilance was written into Dragon Age 2, but cannot be found anywhere in the game, and remains an unimplemented weapon, along with Starfang. Both longsword and great sword copies exist.

Bugs

  • There is a common bug that causes this weapon to have the same appearance as Starfang. Disabling the Warden's Keep DLC may allow the weapon to display correctly. It has been suggested that the best way to avoid this bug is to disable Warden's Keep before playing Awakening, or at the very least before attempting to create this sword through the related quest. Some players have reported that disabling Warden's Keep after Vigilance has been created has not restored the proper model for this weapon.
A mod that fixes this bug can be downloaded here.
Warning: When this mod is installed before the sword is forged by Wade, Vigilance will disappear after you save your game and reload it. To avoid this, simply wait until after the Worked to the Bone quest is completed before installing the mod, or - if you already installed it - uninstall it, finish the quest, then reinstall it. This can be avoided by following the steps outlined in the comments on the mod page (specifically, editing the supplied .uti files with a GFFEditor).
  • OR you can also install another mod if your character already has the sword and has done the quest. It is found as an optional mod just below where you download the previously mentioned one. This mod is a script to be used with the developer console. Simply type runscript vigilance within the console to activate it and transfer all 16 types of Vigilance both longswords and greatswords to your inventory.
  • There is another bug regarding the orientation/animation of the weapon as it is swung. This behavior is specific to the Greatsword version of this weapon - the Longsword version of Vigilance is not affected. There is another mod that fixes that bug as well.
