Urian Nihalias has been Divine of the Imperial Chantry since 9:27 Dragon.

Background[]

In 9:17 Dragon, Urian Nihalias, at the time a magister of the Imperium, accompanied a group of Imperial Templars as they chased a group of apostates in the region surrounding Caimen Brea, close to the border with Orlais. They were confronted by a group of southern Templars who had been hunting the same apostates. While the situation could have easily devolved into a political nightmare, the southern templars' leader, Ser Lambert van Reeves, managed to defuse tensions through respectful negotiations, winning him Urian's admiration and a place in the Seekers of Truth. In 9:21, Magister Urian personally requested that Lambert be named Seeker liaison to the Tevinter Imperium, tasked with aiding them in their investigations of magical corruption. As Ser Lambert grew frustrated with the scope of his task and the obstacles placed in his way, Urian told him that extreme measures were needed to root out corruption.

In 9:27, with the help of several other high-ranking magisters, a select group of Imperial Templars, and Ser Lambert himself, Urian arrested the Imperial Divine and five of the the highest-ranking magisters in Minrathous in a single night. After the resulting trial, Magister Urian assumed the title of Imperial Divine, then led a violent purge of the Imperial Chantry. Ser Lambert reluctantly continued to serve as liaison to Tevinter until 9:31, when it became apparent that Divine Urian was no longer eager to root out magical corruption.[1]

The Black Divine also clashed with Aurelian Titus, a dragon-cultist who'd been gaining more and more power in Tevinter since being granted a seat on the Magisterium in 9:29. The Divine appeared to be losing that confrontation until Titus disappeared in 9:40.[2]

Urian was succeeded as Imperial Divine by the youngest son of Corimer Vesperian sometime before 9:52 Dragon.[3]
