Trap-Making is a crafting skill in Dragon Age: Origins. Characters who have learned this skill can construct traps or lures from common components, as long as the appropriate design has been learned. Tier 1 trap designs are automatically learned with the first level of the skill; others must be purchased.

While all characters who have learned this skill can set traps, only rogues can disarm them and doing so does not require any points in Trap-making. Trap detection is governed in a similar manner to lockpicking requiring points into cunning and possibly the Deft Hands tree depending on cunning level.

The character has learned to create complex second-tier traps and lures, and can now detect enemy traps at greater range than previously.
Expert Trap-Making

The character has learned to assemble lethal third-tier traps and lures.
Master Trap-Making

  • Requires: Level 10
This character has mastered the art of designing deadly fourth-tier traps and lures, and gains a further increase to trap detection range.
Note: Contrary to the descriptions, trap detection range is not affected by Trap-Making skills, but Deft Hands talents instead.

Small Claw Trap 100 physical damage to whoever triggers it Unable to move for 15 seconds unless they pass a physical resistance check
Small Shrapnel Trap 60 physical damage to nearby creatures
Spring Trap Trap knocks down the target, target is motionless for several seconds before standing back up
Tier Two Traps Damage per hit Effect
Large Caltrop Trap 8 physical damage every 2 seconds to creatures in the area -40% movement speed to creatures in the area
Large Claw Trap 150 physical damage to whoever triggers it Target unable to move for 15 seconds unless they pass a physical resistance check
Large Shrapnel Trap 80 physical damage to nearby creatures
Mild Choking Powder Trap -5 attack, -5 defense, -40% movement speed for 10 seconds
Mild Lure Distracts any enemy within a radius unless it passes a mental resistance check. Once distracted, enemy must pass a physical resistance check or be stunned for 10 seconds as well. The lure disappears after stunning one enemy.
Mild Sleeping Gas Trap Creatures in the area fall asleep for 10 seconds unless they pass a physical resistance check
Small Grease Trap Releases a small grease slick that causes -50% movement speed to creatures who enter the area and causes them to fall unless they pass a physical resistance check

Acidic Trap 100 nature damage to those nearby
Choking Powder Trap Disorients nearby targets, inflicts -5 attack, -5 defense, -40% movement speed for 20 seconds
Fire Trap 100 fire damage to those nearby
Freeze Trap 100 cold damage to those nearby

Soulrot Trap 100 spirit damage to those nearby
Tier Four Traps Damage per hit Effect
Acidic Grease Trap -4 nature damage every second -50% movement speed to creatures who enter the area and causes them to fall unless they pass a physical resistance check
Choking Powder Cloud Trap Cloud of choking powder for 20 seconds, disorienting affected targets, which inflicts -5 attack, -5 defense, -40% movement speed on all creatures in the area
Overpowering Lure Distracts any enemy within a large radius unless it passes a mental resistance check. Once distracted, enemy must pass a physical resistance check or be stunned for 20 seconds as well. The lure lingers for 10 seconds after stunning one enemy.
Sleeping Gas Cloud Trap Creatures entering the cloud fall asleep for 20 seconds unless they pass a physical resistance check
