Torpor is a sloth demon encountered in the Fade during the side quest Night Terrors.
Involvement[]
At the beginning of Act 2, Hawke receives news that Feynriel, the apostate mage rescued from slavers during the quest Wayward Son, has gone into a coma due to his particular talent. His mother, Arianni, calls upon the assistance of Hawke and Keeper Marethari to save his life. In order to wake him up, Hawke must enter the Fade to confront the demons struggling for control over Feynriel's mind.
Once Hawke encounters Torpor, it will attempt to bargain with Hawke to allow it to possess Feynriel. Hawke can either refuse its offer immediately or question it further. If they choose the latter and Anders is in the party, Justice pleads for Hawke to refuse its offer. If Hawke tells the spirit to back down, Justice attacks and Hawke is forced to defeat him. Justice/Anders is then removed from the party for the remainder of the quest, leaving Hawke with a smaller party.
After defeating Justice, or if Anders was not brought along, Torpor presents its offer of either power (4 attribute points), knowledge (1 talent/spell point), or magic (Torpor's Barrier Rune). Hawke can accept one of the boons or reject them. If Hawke rejects the offer, Torpor must be defeated. Hawke has a final chance to stop the demon from possessing Feynriel after defeating Caress and Wryme by betraying Torpor and telling Feynriel to wake up (but this will deny Hawke any agreed upon reward).
If Hawke does not help Feynriel see through the illusions with rational arguments and reason, Torpor will attack Hawke and the rest of the party in a rage and Feynriel will beg Hawke to kill him in the Fade and make him Tranquil.
