The Tome of Koslun is a sacred scripture of Qunari philosophy written by the founder of the Qun, Ashkaari Koslun.

Background[]

During the New Exalted Marches against the Qunari, Orlais came into the possession of the artifact and retained it as spoils of war.[citation needed] In 9:31 Dragon, more than a century after the peace ushered in by the Llomerryn Accords, Orlais agreed to return the Tome to the Qunari. The Arishok traveled to Orlais personally to receive the Tome of Koslun from Empress Celene, as the gesture was meant to establish diplomatic relations between the Qunari and the Orlesian Empire. However, the exchange was never completed, as a thief stole the Tome before it could be delivered.[1] The Tevinter Imperium was also interested in the Tome since gaining possession of it would be a severe demoralizing blow to the Qunari.[2] The Arishok, responsible for the recovery of the Tome as a Qunari leader, pursued the book to the Waking Sea, where a storm scuttled his and the pirate's ships, stranding both parties in the port of Kirkwall. The Tome of Koslun vanished, and the Arishok refused to leave Kirkwall until it was recovered.[3][4]

In 9:34 Dragon, the relic resurfaces in Kirkwall's black market in the hands of a smuggler named Wall-Eyed Sam, who plans to sell it to the Imperium. His Lowtown rendezvous is interrupted by Hawke and the Qunari.

Isabela is revealed as the thief that stopped the exchange between the Orlesians and the Qunari. While she initially flees in pursuit of the Tome, she will return with the Tome at the climax of the First Battle of Kirkwall, returning it to the Arishok and allowing them to return to Par Vollen if she has a high enough friendship or rivalry with Hawke

If the Arishok survived and Hawke gave Isabela to the Qunari...
According to Varric Tethras, the Arishok lost the Tome of Koslun again, along with the thief. He returned to Par Vollen to find the Qunari equivalent of a court-martial waiting for him and was replaced by a new Arishok.

Sten, as the new Arishok of the Qunari, tells King Alistair that the Tome of Koslun also mentions the ancient Tevinter Imperium and the Old Gods. He explicitly says that "the Old Gods were like unto dragons, as the first human kings were like unto ordinary men".
