Thief in the House of Learning is a side quest located in the Orzammar. A thief has stolen a book from the Shaperate.

Background

Talking to Shaper Assistant Milldrate triggers this quest. He will mention that somebody has stolen a rare tome, and that he believes it was a bald man from Dust Town.

Walkthrough

To resolve the quest, head to Dust Town and kill Shady Corebit (there is no way to avoid this if you wish to complete the quest) and take the receipt off his body. It will say that somebody at the The Provings has the tome. Continue on to The Proving and kill Fixer Gredin in order to retrieve the tome. Fixer Gredin is located in the North Wing of The Proving, an area which is only open once the quest to fight in the tournament has been accepted. Finally, head back to Milldrate to return the book, or alternatively, you can sell the book to the fence Jertrin standing against the wall near Gredin for about 2-and-a-half sovereigns. You must sell the book to Jertrin immediately once you initiate a conversation with him if that is your plan. Once you exit the conversation, he will no longer speak with you even if you still have the book.

Result

No experience points, money, character approval or items are rewarded for returning the book to Shaper Assistant Mildrate. Though he does state, "Thank you, at least someone is willing to stand up for tradition." No consequence occurs if you decide to sell the book to Jertrin for ~2.5 gold.
