While heading towards the Chantry in Lothering you stumble on to an argument between a Chantry sister and an unscrupulous Merchant.

Walkthrough

As you approach the chantry, you will encounter a group consisting of a sister, a merchant, and two farmers. The priest and the unnamed merchant are arguing over the prices the merchant is charging for his wares. In the ensuing dialogue, you have the option of removing yourself from the argument, siding with the merchant, or siding with the sister.

These decisions can result in approval or disapproval from your companions and possibly also a monetary reward from the merchant.

If you remove yourself from the argument, the merchant will leave Lothering:

Ico Appr Heart Leliana approves (+1)
Ico DisAppr Heart Sten disapproves (-3)

If you side with the merchant, you will receive 1Gold and you will be able to barter with the merchant:

Ico DisAppr Heart Alistair disapproves (-3)
Ico DisAppr Heart Leliana disapproves (-15) or Disapproves (-10) if you choose "You don't think you're being unscrupulous?" as your 2nd dialogue option
Ico Appr Heart Morrigan approves (+2)

If you decide to kill the merchant:

Ico DisAppr Heart Alistair disapproves (-3)
Ico DisAppr Heart Leliana disapproves (-30)
Ico Appr Heart Morrigan approves (+2)
Ico Appr Heart Sten approves (+4)

If after siding with the merchant, you choose the dialog option "Don't worry about it. I hate the self-righteous", (you will still receive the 1Gold):

Ico DisAppr Heart Alistair disapproves (-6)
Ico DisAppr Heart Leliana disapproves (-15)
Ico Appr Heart Morrigan approves (+4)

If you side with the sister, you will have the opportunity to either persuade or intimidate the merchant to lower his prices. Upon success, you will be able to barter with the merchant.

Ico Appr Heart Leliana approves (+2)
Ico DisAppr Heart Morrigan disapproves (-3)

Rewards

  • 150 XP
  • Possibly 1 Gold (see above)
  • Possibly the opportunity to barter with the merchant (see above)
