The Summer Sword is a greatsword in Dragon Age: Origins.
Acquisition[]
This greatsword can be looted from Ser Cauthrien during the quest Rescue the Queen or later when the Landsmeet is convened by fighting Ser Cauthrien in the entrance hall of the Landsmeet Chamber.
Background[]
In 8:84 Blessed, Lord Aurelien of Montsimmard commissioned a sword for his youngest son Luis. Lord Aurelien sought out the most renowned master smith in the Orlesian Empire, Vercenne of Halamshiral. The old master labored for several months, folding steel, honing the edge to perfection. The resulting blade was as long as a man is tall, and sharp as the tongue of any noblewoman. Vercenne proclaimed it, in a fit of irony, the "Summer Sword", since he had crafted it in the winter of his lifetime.

- It is possible to obtain two copies of this sword. If you kill Ser Cauthrien and loot her during the Rescue the Queen quest, and then allow the remainder of her guards to kill your party and capture the main player and Alistair, she will respawn and confront you at the Landsmeet. Both times she will have the sword on her body.
- This sword is also carried on the back of Archon Hessarian during The Urn of Sacred Ashes quest.
- It is almost certainly a reference to the Sommerswerd, a powerful weapon/artefact in the Lone Wolf Choose your own Adventure books.
