Acquisition[]

Returning to the Lighthouse after both Shades of the Blight and Something Wrong have been completed, immediately triggers a cutscene where Davrin explains that the First Warden is recalling all Wardens back to Weisshaupt as a darkspawn horde is advancing on the fort led by an archdemon.

Rook ends the conversation promising to speak to Solas to see if he has any information that may help and asks Davrin to ready the team.

Once the conversation ends this quest begins.

Walkthrough[]

After receiving word that the gods are marching towards Weisshaupt, the team must seize the opportunity to destroy them.

Prepare for Weisshaupt[]

Speak to Solas to learn more about the gods' plans and how to kill them. Rook will have to tell Solas they are willing to do whatever it takes to get the Wardens on their side before he is fully cooperative with them however. Rook learns that in order to kill the Evanuris they must first kill their dragons to render them mortal, then strike them down with the Wolf's Fang.

Make any preparations for the siege by upgrading and enchanting gear, upgrading the Caretaker's workshop to get better loot, or look over skills and abilities. Note that for this mission Davrin is required as one of the two party members. The other companions will occasionally be visible and have short conversations with Rook as they pass each other on different levels of the buildings during the events.

Enter Weisshaupt[]

Proceed to the Eluvian or use the map to travel directly to Weisshaupt. The whole team is present for the mission but Rook will only have Davrin and one other companion with them. As soon as the party arrives they discover that the Eluvian took them into a storage room at Weisshaupt before an attack sends the mirror down into the courtyard, splitting the party.

Find Antoine and Evka[]

In the storage room they meet a little girl, Mila, later found out to be the blacksmith's daughter, who warns them about darkspawn outside.

Get to the War Room[]

Dispatching the darkspawn in the courtyard allows Mila to show the team towards the War Room where Evka and Antoine should be, so follow her to a secret passage and open it. Warden Commander Janos is noted as having gone down fighting when they pass his corpse along the path.

When Mila stops by the next set of doors, head right to a stack of boxes blocking a staircase. Destroy them and head up to grab some loot. There's also some behind the shelves between that staircase and the door.

Through the door the Veilguard is greeted with the disembodied face of Ghilan'nain in the clouds and her archdemon terrorising the Wardens. Davrin - and Rook, should Rook be a Grey Warden - will hear the Calling, visualized as an agonizing headache. Should Lucanis be in the active party he will question how he's supposed to kill a cloud with a dagger. Proceed forward, destroying blight bulbs along the edge of the building, as Grey Wardens are fighting off an army of darkspawn below.

After more darkspawn Mila leads on to another door, behind which is the War Room. Here the First Warden is reacting to the situation poorly and Rook has a choice to either talk him into helping or knock him out to take charge. Regardless of how it's done, the plan of action is to use an old dragon trap that Antoine hopes can capture the archdemon, so Rook heads there to prepare it.

Find the Dragon Trap[]

Continue through the door to witness the archdemon burn a group of Wardens, then defeat the darkspawn. The archway ahead is blocked with blight but before destroying it, grab the chest above it by breaking the lock on a ladder to the far left of the door.

Prepare for another fight and drop down the ledge. On the right side of the battlements there's a ballista that can be used to fight off the horde of darkspawn as well as destroy multiple blight bulbs. In the left corner of this area, below the tower, one of the blight bulbs hides a chest.

Climb up towards the quest marker to reach the next level of the battlements where another ballista awaits, this one under multiple blight bulbs. To free it, follow the two blight cords to and destroy the nodes at each end - one is just next the ballista and the other is a little closer to the outside wall. Use it to shoot the bulbs inside and the left side of the tower to unlock the path forward. Shoot the darkspawn on the other side before leaving the ballista or fight them as normal.

In the tower there's a hole down into the next section of the map but before jumping down, destroy the two blight bulbs on the scaffolding on the left side then jump across the hole and climb up to the small chest revealed there.

Get to the Library[]

With the way forward collapsed Davrin suggests going through the library instead so follow the markers in that direction. At the point where an opening in the wall is covered by blight cords there's a small chest hidden under some barrels. The map alerts about another chest that's actually in the courtyard below so ignore that for now and slide down to the next level below.

Fight a horde of smaller darkspawn, then destroy blight to get through to the next area. One of the blight bulbs sit high on a wall and when destroyed it reveals to smaller bulbs right below it. Destroy them to reach a chest and some other loot before continuing. After the next set of doors two companions not in the active party, or Antoine and Evka (depending on your choice with the First Warden), will call down from an upper floor and instruct Rook to follow their torch forward. Climb over some barriers to face some darkspawn and a mini boss - The Relentless Wall. Defeat it and continue through the wall where it came through, initially blocked by some blight.

Follow the quest marker, eventually seeing another companion, or Antoine, with a torch. When looking directly at this person - turn around to find a trapped chest and some other loot behind boxes.

Continue down into a little courtyard with some darkspawn and blight bulbs. Before destroying the wall of blight, grab the chest on some scaffolding to the left of it by using Assan to drop down a stack of climbable wood. Head through that hole in the wall to see two companions running ahead. Follow the markers and witness Evka or the First Warden fighting a big tentacle above. Round the corner of the platform they were on to see a blight-covered chest in their spot. To reach it, destroy the blight underneath that platform. This is the chest that was previously mentioned as unreachable in an earlier section as Rook is now below that tower.

As Rook approaches the next area a huge tentacle will block the way, but Mila shows up to extend the team a ladder and escape upwards. Follow her, and at the point she runs up an L-shaped staircase but takes cover in the middle of it, take a left in the middle of the stairs to a two-story kitchen area where there's some loot including a big chest.

Up the stairs, face off with two Greater Ogres with company. As they deal heavy damage, avoid standing in blight pools which amplifies their damage further.

After they are defeated a horde of smaller darkspawn will start appearing around many indestructible blight bubbles. As it's looking grim for the group their companions open a previously blocked door and are reunited. The Warden's blacksmith and Mila's father Holden shows up to seal the door behind them and buy them some time. Evka also joins them to reaffirm their plan on using the dragon trap buy using Solas' dagger as bait.

Find the Dragon Trap[]

In the library Holden can suggest taking the Eluvian to safety and asks to borrow some companions to help set that up. There's another chest signal here that can't be resolved yet, so take the elevator up to discover that Ghilan'nain has blighted even the inside of Weisshaupt. Watch for exploding blight bombs falling from the ceiling. In the middle of the room is a little reading nook with blight bulbs to destroy and a the chest that was mentioned to loot. There's also some loot on either side of the next wall of blight to fetch before moving on.

Davrin will remind the party that once he, as a Grey Warden, kills the archdemon he will die too but assures them he's ready to make that sacrifice. Should Rook also be a Warden they will bring that up as an option but Davrin insists it be him so that Rook can finish the job by leading the Veilguard.

Next is another section of library, also full of blight. Keep following the cords of blight, destroying nodes and looting on the way.

Fight through a final batch of darkspawn and a blight wall to reach the dragon trap and trigger a cutscene. Watch Rook bait Ghilan'nain's attention and her archdemon get trapped by ancient chains to the cheers of the gathered Wardens. Davrin steps up, sword in hand and asking Rook to give Assan a hug from him, ready to make the sacrifice but is suddenly interrupted by the First Warden. His attitude depends on if Rook knocked him out or reasoned with him but regardless he will get Davrin to step aside and take his place to strike the killing blow. Before he can finish the job Ghilan'nain appears to defend her pet, killing the First Warden and using his life essence to mutate her dragon enough to free itself.

Weaken Ghilan'nain[]

Rook and the team must defeat Ghilan'nain's mutated Archdemon Razikale in multiple stages.

As the archdemon nears death Davrin again confirms that he will finish it off, with Rook telling him that they will never forget him.

Eventually the mutated dragon falls limp and Davrin strikes it down permanently. He is chocked to see the blight streaming from the corpse passing him by and going into Ghilan'nain instead, sparing his life unexpectedly. As she is screaming in rage Lucanis takes his opportunity to strike at her with the lyrium dagger but at the last moment she deflects him and he only scratches her face, confirming her vulnerability but not harming her significantly.

Enraged Ghilan'nain makes the blight overwhelm what remains of the battlefield, forcing everyone to escape through the eluvian back to the lighthouse to regroup.

Results[]

Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain are marching their darkspawn army toward Weisshaupt, which gives the team an opportunity to destroy them.

The gods have attacked Weisshaupt, which gives the team a chance to destroy them. The quest is quickly in trouble when the eluvian drops the team into the middle of a siege.

Ghilan'nain and her Archdemon are laying siege to Weisshaupt Fortress. After confronting the First Warden, the team hatches a plan to slay the Archdemon with Weisshaupt's dragon trap.

After regrouping in the library, the team decides to risk using Solas's dagger as bait to draw the Archdemon into the trap.

Ghilan'nain has transformed her Archdemon into a three-headed monster that must be defeated before Lucanis can strike the killing blow on the god.

Ghilan'nain laid siege to Weisshaupt, and her Archdemon destroyed much of the Grey Warden fortress. Still, Davrin managed to kill the Archdemon, and Lucanis wounded Ghilan'nain, reminding her that she's now mortal.

Trivia[]

  • The library contains a number of callbacks to wardens in previous games. In the room where Evka and Antoine are found, there is a pedestal with the joining chalice used by the Hero of Ferelden in Ostagar for their joining. Further on in the library is a note from Aura regarding Warden Kristoff's effects. A letter of commendation for the Silverite Wings of Valor given to the original Warden Blackwall that Thom Ranier took the identity of can be found on a table. In the upper level of the library, there is a report that follows the movements of Hawke's father, Malcolm Hawke.
  • The conversation with Davrin that begins this quest is a quest in itself called A Change on the Wind, although it does not appear in the journal after completion.
