The Heart of Corruption is a side quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Acquisition[]

This quest can be acquired by interacting with the Thrice-Sealed Gate on Beacon Island in the Crossroads, or by encountering one of the revenants in the Crossroads.

Walkthrough[]

The team must find a way to get rid of the blight that has sealed off areas of the Crossroads.

Clear the blight from Beacon Island[]

Three revenants must be eliminated and their essences taken to the Thrice-Sealed Gate in order to find and eliminate the source of corruption in the Crossroads. The following quests must be completed to gain access to each revenant:

Defeat the Betrayal of Felassan in the Converged City[]

Betrayal of Felassan

Enter the chamber that lies at the end of the passage opened by completing Gate of Deep Sorrows. There are several groups of undead that must be taken care of to reach this point. Once inside the chamber, the Betrayal of Felassan will rise from its throne and begin attacking. This revenant is vulnerable to Necrotic damage. Throughout the fight, the revenant will also summon groups of undead to aid them. At 75% and 40% health [confirmation needed] , the revenant will retreat to the Veil tear and start to regenerate a barrier. At these times, attack the revenant before the timer runs out to prevent it unleashing an AOE attack on the party; if the party manages to deplete the barrier before the time runs out, the revenant will rejoin the fight having not regenerated a barrier.

Once the revenant has been defeated, collect the Revenant Essence from where it fell and loot the chest within the room to receive a unique amulet, The Burden. The Revenant Essence can now be placed on the Thrice-Sealed Gate.

Defeat the Slaughter of the Pillars in Elvhenan's Haven[]

Once the revenant has been defeated, collect the Revenant Essence from where it fell, loot the chest in the area nearby to receive a unique weapon for Rook's class, and collect the memento near the chest. The Revenant Essence can now be placed on the Thrice-Sealed Gate.

Face the source of corruption[]

Travel through the blighted tunnel and slide down into a large clearing where the party will encounter a level 50 Revenant Dragon that has been feeding on the blight. This dragon is vulnerable to fire damage. This dragon initially breathes ice, however it will switch its breath element at several points during the fight to be fire and then lightning.

At the end of Regrets of the Dread Wolf, Rook has the opportunity to convince Mythal to aid the Veilguard in their efforts to stop the Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain. Should Mythal give her essence willingly, she will also offer her support in the fight to bring down the source of corruption in The Crossroads. Toward the beginning of the fight with the source of corruption, Mythal will swoop in and take out a significant portion of the Revenant Dragon's armor/health, making the fight easier.

After defeating the Revenant Dragon, The Caretaker will thank the party for stopping the gods' efforts to take over The Crossroads. Head up the stairs on the South-West side of the area to find another memento, a mysterious circle piece, and a chest which contains a unique ring The Last Resort. The Caretaker's boat is available in this area to take you back to the main area of Beacon Island.
