== Background ==
Teagan was born, most likely in Redcliffe, in 8:91 Blessed.<ref>''[[Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne]]'', Chapter 12. It's mentioned that around the time of the lost battle of West Hill in 8:99 Blessed, Teagan was eight years old.</ref><ref>{{Cite wot2|105}}. When the Guerrin family left Ferelden in 8:93 Blessed, Teagan was only two years old.</ref> When Teagan was two, his parents decided to send him and Eamon away from Ferelden so that his father could publicly announce his support for the [[Moira Theirin|Rebel Queen]] without further endangering them. Arlessa Marina took them to her elder sister Thalia Aurum, at the time the ruling Margravine of [[Ansburg]]. The brothers traveled to Denerim with their mother and boarded a ship headed for Wycome. Marina fell gravely ill during the journey across the [[Waking Sea]]. From Wycome they took a carriage to Ansburg but it was already too late for the Arlessa, who died just a day after reaching the family home. After their mother's death, Teagan and Eamon were raised by their aunt and uncle, who treated them as if they were their own children. Teagan grew especially close to his cousin Cador, and the pair quickly became known as "Trouble" to the keep's inhabitants. When Arl Rendorn was killed at the battle of [[West Hill]] in 8:99 Blessed, Thalia and her husband legally adopted Eamon and Teagan.  

Eamon returned to Redcliffe in 9:02 Dragon to assume the title of Arl while Teagan remained in Ansburg. His great ambition in life was to participate in the Grand Tourney. He was already an excellent horseman, and his combat instructors believed he had the potential to one day represent Ansburg in the Grand Tourney. On his eighteenth birthday, just a few weeks before participating in a [[Starkhaven]] tournament with his cousins Percival and Cador, Eamon sent him a letter asking him to return and rule the bannorn of Rainesfere. Teagan was initially set to refuse, but Thalia convinced him to travel to Ferelden to at least tell his brother in person. He met Eamon and his new wife in Denerim and they made the trip to Redcliffe together. By the time they'd reached [[Codex entry: Lake Calenhad|Lake Calenhad]], Teagan had agreed to become Rainesfere's bann. Immediately after the battle at [[Ostagar]] Teagan is shown standing against [[Loghain Mac Tir]] at [[the Landsmeet]], highly suspicious of Loghain's withdrawal from the [[Battle of Ostagar]]. It seems he is the original instigator of the [[Bannorn]]'s resistance against Loghain's regency, and he brushes off [[Anora|Queen Anora]]'s reassurances that her father is "doing what is best for Ferelden" by pointedly asking her if Loghain also did what was best for her husband, Teagan's nephew.

When [[the Warden]] and party later arrive in Redcliffe, they find out that the [[Redcliffe Village]] is besieged by [[Corpse|undead]], and that the seriously ill Arl Eamon is locked in his own castle, with no word from it at all. Bann Teagan is currently in charge of the town's defense and he pleads with the Warden and [[Alistair]] (if he's present) to help them defend the village; the Warden can agree or refuse. If the Warden elects to help, Teagan will answer any questions and direct him/her to the Mayor [[Murdock]] and the knight [[Perth|Ser Perth]].

After the battle, Teagan gives a celebration speech, and asks the Warden to meet him by the windmill for their next move. He reveals there is a secret passage, and did not mention it before as he wanted to help in the battle. At that moment, [[Isolde|Arlessa Isolde]] suddenly runs down the hill, to his shock. She insists that Teagan go to [[Redcliffe Castle]] with her alone to help her son [[Connor Guerrin|Connor]], and speaks of a "terrible evil" in the castle that is behind the attacks. Teagan gives his Signet ring to the Warden, so that they can take the secret passage and infiltrate the castle while he tries to create a distraction.

When the Warden infiltrated Castle Redcliffe, they discover that Connor had ensorcelled Bann Teagan into acting as a fool. It is apparent that Connor is [[Demon#Demonic possession|possessed]] by a [[Desire Demon]], and is therefore an [[abomination]]. When the Warden confronts Connor, a brawl breaks out with the enthralled Teagan and castle guards. After the fight, Teagan regains his senses and retrieves [[Jowan]], who talks of a [[blood magic]] ritual to send a [[mage]] into [[Fade|the Fade]] to attack the demon controlling Connor (unless you elected to let Jowan out of his cell with the comment "Run. I don't want to see you again. Ever," in which case it will be [[Morrigan]] who mentions the ritual if she is in your party). After the Warden deals with the desire demon ([[The Arl of Redcliffe#What to do with Connor|one way or another]]), Teagan remains to watch over the Arling while Eamon remains comatose.

Once the [[Urn of Andraste]] is found and Eamon recovers, Teagan stays with his brother at Redcliffe Castle. Later, Eamon orders Teagan to stay with the Redcliffe garrison while he and the Warden go to participate in the [[Battle of Denerim]]. After the Fifth Blight, Arl Eamon Guerrin elected to remain in Denerim and made Teagan the new Arl of Redcliffe. While both Eamon and Teagan were popular with their subjects, Eamon's only child, Connor, was either killed in 9:30 Dragon or forbidden by Chantry law from inheriting his father's title for being a mage. Knowing that Teagan would do well in the role, Eamon abdicated in favor of his younger brother.

Two years after the [[Elder One]]'s defeat, both [[Orlais]] and [[Ferelden]] have grown wary of the [[Inquisition]]'s unchecked power and call [[the Inquisitor]] forth to answer for their actions. Teagan is sent to represent Ferelden, which as a nation favors the complete dismantling of the Inquisition, due to concerns of the Inquisition's large military presence, namely Skyhold, being within Ferelden's borders.

During the [[Exalted Council]], Teagan calls out the Inquisition's previous actions in Ferelden's territory, namely [[Capturing Caer Bronach|the capture of Caer Bronach]].  He draws comparisons to the [[Grey Wardens]], who had invaded Ferelden under the pretext of "restoring order," leading to their exile during the [[Storm Age]]. * While Teagan is normally seen wearing only his noble's outfit in Redcliffe, during his cutscenes in Denerim he is wearing a set of iron heavy chainmail.
* If the Warden is female, she can optionally flirt with Teagan at the [[Village chantry|chantry]]. This does not lead anywhere, and has no effect on any romanced companions (even if they are in the party).
