Bug Workaround Edit

A number of times I have tried to defend the Vigil as a change from saving Amaranthine, and I don't know if it is a game bug or something introduced by one of the 'added content' but it became inevitable that each time it would not end. Each time, when you have dispatched the darkspawn, Seneschal Varel is swinging at the gate, unkillable but making no progress either. Worse one can not get past the gates to attack anything outside the keep.

I come here and see, "When defending the gates, the quest possibly won't renew after killing droves of darkspawn, causing you to fight a never ending horde.", which may be the same issue ?

Luckily I now have a "teleport" (mod) spell content loaded, so any mage in my party can get to the battlements high above the action. From there you may just see the Herald, far down the road. Standing right on the edge of the parapet I found basic staff attacks would reach him, and some area spells would just catch him at their edge too (sometimes also drawing them in where one can use archery on them). Have the patience to keep at it until he is defeated, and finally the game is able to continue. It looks like the problem is all down to a mislocated Herald who is normally neither in normal sight nor reachable.

I also found the following useful. http://social.bioware.com/en/forum/1/topic/58/index/2932116/1 Where the console runscript zz_vgk_debug_siege command is suggested along with the Plot Jump option to jump past any sticking points.

More Bugs? Edit

Apart from the game being terribly laggy, up to a point that an instant-hit spell's effects are only applied a few seconds after casting (something I blame on my increasingly struggling old laptop) and the "endless horde spawn", I got some other strange things at Vigil's Keeps defense:

-Very early in the battle, my main character got hit with a debuff damage-over-time effect, seemingly from the Dual-Wield talent tree, that I was unable to get rid of and never went away during battle, causing continous damage and need of healing. Even save&reload did not work. I guessed it had something to do with me trying to attack the out-of-reach Herald at the start of the battle.

-Garavel repeatedly turned hostile and attacked my party in each of the battle's phases, so I was usually forced to force-field or petrify him. Is that intended? A blood magic effect applied by the Herald? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.79.159.5 (talk) 13:32, October 28, 2016
