Chain Lightning, ive been a fan ever since Diablo, how is it in this game? Andrew-108 (talk) 23:12, April 5, 2011 (UTC)
Friendly fire[]
In the article's Information section, it says that the lightning will not jump to friendly targets. In the spell description, it says that friendly fire is possible. Is one of them incorrect, or is it that the initial casting can be targeted at either allies or enemies, but the forks afterwards will not jump to allies? -Sophia (talk) 13:19, December 21, 2013 (UTC)
- So, to be clear, of these options:
- (1) Can't target allies; will not jump to allies.
- (2) Can't target allies; can jump to allies.
- (3) Can target allies; will not jump to allies.
- (4) Can target allies; can jump to allies.
- So, to be clear, of these options:
- ...(1) or (2) are possible. My point is, either "friendly fire is possible", as the spell description says, in which case (2) is true, or "lightning will not jump to friendly targets", as the article says, in which case (1) is true. Does anyone know which it is? Both can't be true. -Sophia (talk) 23:16, December 21, 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not very good at reading scripts in the toolset. This is what I think is the case, but others would definitely need to confirm:
- The spell only looks for hostile targets within range for the forks.
- There is no check on whether the initial target is hostile or not.
- The spell aborts if the caster dies, the original target dies, or if it has reached the 4th generation.
- Damage is 20 on the first target; 20/2 on each of the next two targets; 20/3 on each of the next four targets, and 20/4 on each of the last eight targets.
- The spell itself doesn't check for the game difficulty level, but I'm guessing the appropriate damage adjustments are applied via another script.
- I think this suggests that (3), above, is correct, but in-game confirmation is needed, at the least. -Sophia (talk) 00:01, December 22, 2013 (UTC)

Tested on the ps3 in awakening on nightmare difficulty cast by anders. A group of 3/4 mellee darkspawn attacked the warden and Oghren, i cast the spell on the nearest one, it ricocheted off the darkspawn a couple times but did not bounce to the warden or oghren despite there not being enough darkspawn to get the maximum number splits.--The W!Z3MAN Hath Spoken!
