If you go to the proving as Lord Harrowmont's Champion before finishing this quest, it cannot be completed. When you talk to Vartag, he will ask why you're talking to him after backing Lord Harrowmont in the Proving. You can explain to him and Persuade him that you want to spy on Lord Harrowmont for him but then he tells you to stay away from Lady Dace and Lord Helmi. Leilana approves of this course of action (+4) and Wynne will protest but can be Persuaded not to worry The Quest is still on your list but cannot be completed. You can, however, still get the discount with the Merchants from Lord Dace after finding him in the Caverns

Altered Documents Edit

I think it would be a good idea to mention more about the Shaperate and how the documents have been altered. Rversaw 05:52, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

Discount Edit

Could not reproduce this on PC as of patch 1.03. Gorim's prices did not reduce after rescuing Dace and him promising a discount. Looking at Dace's dialogue file, no unique variable is set when you trigger the discount dialogue with him, so either there is no discount anywhere or it is simply granted upon completing of his plot, and does not require him to actually mention the discount. The former - there is no discount at all - seems more likely.

I tested this three seperate times, and the cost of his goods always dropped by 25% though that was prior to v1.03 as I quit playing shortly after updating. Mictlantecuhtli 12:50, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

I just tested this with patch 1.04 on PC, and cannot obtain any discounts. I checked his prices before Orzammar, after persuading Lord Dace, and after completing A Prince's Favor: The First Task quest. Prices were always at 110% of item value, all three times. Poking around the plot and merchant scripts a bit more with the Toolset, there is no code that would give an non-dwarven player discount in PC patch 1.04. The only variable that invokes a discount is DEN_MARKET_GENERIC_GORIM_DISCOUNT, which sets the sale markdown at 50% (rather than the customary 25%) for dwarven nobles. The page for this quest should be updated to reflect the lack of actual discount. Valentinian (talk) 04:53, May 8, 2011 (UTC)
