Severan was a mage who was appointed as King Meghren's advisor during his rule.

Background

Severan was not born in Ferelden or Orlais, but rather from one of the countries north of Ferelden, possibly the Free Marches. It is unknown whether he was raised by the Circle of Magi or if he joined them later. In any case, before joining Meghren's court, Severan was a part of the Circle of Magi. When Meghren put out the call for a mage advisor as was his right, Severan volunteered for the job. It is heavily implied that he took the job mainly as a way of discreetly gaining power and so he would no longer have to practice his magic under the watchful eyes of the Templars. Working for Meghren, he quickly became his closest advisor as well as the de facto ruler of Ferelden, managing the everyday business of Ferelden while Meghren pursued his own pleasures.

He was also responsible for most of the plans to put an end to the rebellion in Ferelden. It was his plan to lure the rebel army into a trap at West Hill and capture King Maric Theirin there. This plan of his was almost successful, but things took a turn for the worse when it ultimately resulted in the rebellion spreading to the whole Ferelden as well as the bard Katriel betraying him. As the rebellion spread, he left with the army to try and rendezvous with the two legions that the emperor of Orlais had sent as reinforcements. However, the legions never made it to the rendezvous point as the rebel army, led by Loghain engaged and defeated the two legions at the River Dane and not long after that, Severan was ambushed and killed by King Maric, effectively robbing Meghren of his most effective servant.
