Sea of Blood is a main quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Lucanis Dellamorte's recruitment mission.

Acquisition[]

This quest is received automatically after completing The Enemy of My Enemy.

Walkthrough[]

If the team needs an assassin, the famed Demon of Vyrantium is their best bet - if he's free to take the contract.

Talk to the Crows to find the mage-killer[]

The team must find the eluvian that leads to Treviso by completing Into the Crossroads before continuing on this quest.

Recruit the Demon of Vyrantium[]

Teia, the contact from the Crows, leads the team to [hideout] through the streets of Treviso. The Antaam have occupied the city since their stalemate with the war on Tevinter and can be seen guarding strategic checkpoints and interrogating "suspicious" citizens. Take a zipline to arrive at the Cantori Diamond, where the group will join Catarena, Viago, and Illario to discuss details on your contract.

Caterina states that her grandson, Lucanis, who is known as the Demon of Vyrantium and a feared mage-killer, is the one you seek. Viago informs you that Lucanis has actually been dead for a year, but Caterina shares that she actually knows her grandson is alive, though currently held by the Venatori in a place known as The Ossuary; this is resulting from a betrayal that gave away his location during his mission. Caterina promises that you may have Lucanis's help if you manage to free him.

Find Lucanis[]

Follow Illario to the nearby docks where Caterina has arranged a boat to take you out to Lucanis's location. He will guide you while voicing his displeasure at Caterina from keeping his cousin's survival from him all this time. The team will take the boat out to find Lucanis while Illario remains in Treviso. The Crow that came with you gains you access to the Ossuary, a secret underwater prison kept safe by numerous powerful enchantments. Continue through the prison and you'll find many bodies belonging to the Venatori scattered about.

Once you've arrived at the High Security area, break the barrier crystals to undo the large barrier preventing access to Lucanis's cell. You'll open the cell to find a large room containing a crystal and three Venatori guards, though before the are able to attack you Lucanis bursts out of the crystal and dispatches them. You'll find out that while Lucanis is alive, he has been possessed by a demon despite not being a mage. Lucanis promises that he can still fulfil the contract promised by Caterina as long as you destroy a vial of his blood they keep within the prison to control him and let him fulfil his original contract on Calivan, the prison warden located elsewhere within the Ossuary.

Find and destroy the vial of Lucanis's blood[]

Once out of Lucanis's cell, defeat the Venatori mage ambush and collect the key dropped from one of their bodies. Use the key to unlock the door in the High Security area and you'll find your first Memento on a table to the left. After you exit the first room, you'll encounter an undead being killed by a fleeing group of Venatori. In this area, you'll see an empty power crystal dock leading to another room that contains a chest behind a barrier. Fight a group of Venator in the third room of the Outer Cells area and use the free power crystal located in an open cell to access the chest room in the previous area. Take the power crystal again and use it to build a walkable bridge to continue your loop back to the broken bridge.

Once at the bridge, use Lucanis's ability, Spite's Reach, on the Veil Instability to pull a makeshift bridge through the Fade so you can hop across. The next room has you fighting The Fabricator and two other Venatori mages who are dealing with a handful of Frenzied Dead. Break the barrier obstructing your path and hop down to the next area where you'll find a chest. A power crystal to your right can be used to gain access to an optional area on the left where you'll be ambushed by several Demonic Experiments; at the end of this area lies a chest for you to loot.

Continue towards the quest marker by jumping down a few ledges to find a room with a handful of dead Venatori. Up on a ledge to your right is another Memento. Jump down to next area to fight a group of Venatori, Frenzied Dead, and Demonic Experiments. An optional large open room to the right will contain more Demonic Experiments and a chest to loot. Destroy the barrier shard and enter the Warden's Tower Approach where you'll use Spite's Reach to make another makeshift bridge. After which, it'll be a short trip to the Blood Vault. Once in the Blood Vault, another memento can be found on a table to the right. Take down the barrier surrounding the room containing Lucanis's blood vial by destroying the barrier crystals located throughout the area, then destroy the vial itself.

Fulfill the contract[]

Head to the nearby elevator to deal with Calivan. Throughout the fight, he will spawn body doubles and even a pride demon once he reaches 50% health that the party will need to take down. Note: Calivan is vulnerable to cold and resistant to fire. Calivan's Pride is vulnerable to Necrotic and resistant to lighting. After Calivan is taken care of, a short cutscene will take place where it is revealed that Lucanis can see Spite as if it had a body of its own.

Wrap up any unfinished business[]

Talk to Lucanis when you're ready to head out, but first make sure to grab the two available chests in the area - one placed in the middle of the room and one behind a barrier at the back of the room.

Back in Treviso, the team arrives to find that Zara has taken Caterina as a message to the Crows. Despite the upset, Lucanis promises to help Rook and honor the last contract Caterina made. The team then heads back to the Lighthouse where they discuss how to deal with Lucanis' demon, Spite.

Results[]

The team needs an expert in fighting mages. Neve has arranged a meeting with the Antivan Crows to see if they have one for hire.

At the bottom of the Nocen Sea, an ancient prison holds the Venatori's most terrifying foe: Lucanis Dellamorte, the infamous "Demon of Vyrantium." The team will get their god-slayer when his chains are finally broken.

With the team's help, the Demon of Vyrantium escaped his chains and completed his contract for Calivan, warden of the Ossuary. But his reunion with the Crows was bloodied by a counterattack from Zara Renata, who struck down Caterina before his return.
