Playing the Great Game is a Divine's Feast card in Dragon Age: The Last Court. It is drawn at random from the Feast Deck.

Description[]

Favor isn't always given willingly. Sometimes you have to pry it loose, like a mussel from its shell.

Spend Secrets to win the Divine's Favor.

Available actions[]

1.

Choose your words carefully
There are things the Divine wants to hear, and things that she doesn't. Fortunately, you know the difference.
Requires: 3 Secrets

Result: kindred spirits
How alike you are! How closely your interests align! You clink your goblets together and drink to newfound friendship.
+1 The Divine's Favor, -3 Secrets

2.

Win her attendants' regard
Treat them with courtesy and they will speak well of you to their mistress.
Requires: 3 Secrets

Result: You favor them with your time.
Some enjoy your conversation, others the scandalous morsels of gossip you let slip. Most just like being listened to. Before long you overhear them praising you to the Divine.
+1 The Divine's Favor, -3 Secrets

3.

Mock the Divine's detractors
The enemy of her enemy...
Requires: 3 Secrets

Result: Acceptable targets
You test the waters with a disappointed expression when a certain name comes up. Then you risk a private joke at the expense of a political opponent before graduating to scornful condemnation of whose who defy her.
The Divine is never less than gracious regarding her adversaries, but cannot suppress her smile.
+1 The Divine's Favor, -3 Secrets

4.

Sway her advisers with gifts
But which gifts? More importantly, which advisers?
Requires: 6 Secrets

Result: Greasing the wheels
This one is fond of wine, that one of broad-minded company. Another is sincerely pious, which stumps you until you make a generous donation to the chantry where she trained.
Soon a segment of the Divine's key counsel are your fervent admirers. Is that your name you hear them whispering in her ear?
+2 The Divine's Favor, -6 Secret

5.

Offer the Divine information useful to her cause
Her foes' fears. The follies of her friends. Secrets to sway those undecided.
Requires: 6 Secrets

Result: Nothing need be said
For effect, you have them penned on vellum - names on the left; sins on the right. The Divine slips the list into her robes with a sharp-edged smile.
+2 The Divine's Favor, -6 Secrets

6.

Use the Divine's past to blackmail her
She was Dorothea before she was Justinia. Justinia might be the Most Holy, but Dorothea was as flawed as any mortal...
Requires: 9 Secrets

Result: Ghosts
You've lost count of the strings pulled, the favors called in, the secrets sold. And all for this: a single name.
You drop it into conversation, and watch the Divine's smile freeze. She isn't pleased, but she's no stranger to the game. You've earned her attention.
Whoever this 'Marjolaine' was, you'd like to thank her.
+3 The Divine's Favor, -9 Secrets
