Purchase new pickaxes from a Lowtown smith during the day.
Acquisition
After you've cleared The Bone Pit of undead and return, Jansen will complain about the poor quality of the pickaxes. He's alerted the problem to Hubert, who has done nothing. Hawke can offer to help out.
Walkthrough
Go into Lowton during the day. You'll find Smith next to the Armor Merchant. The quest ends when you buy the pickaxes for 15 sovereigns.

Notes
- There is a dialog option to ask for a discount, but the smith replies negatively.
- When the quest is completed, the entry says "The new pickaxes will increase the efficiency of the Bone Pit." The only reward for this quest seems to be the experience gained upon its completion.
Bugs
If you respond to Jansen's request with "Maybe", the quest is not added to your journal and the Smith will not sell you the pickaxes. Returning to Jansen shows a quest marker above him, but he will not give you another opportunity to pick up the quest, and you will be unable to acquire it.
If you go to Lowtown and interact with the Smith before acquring the quest, he says "Want some pickaxes?" Immediately Hawke will respond, "I'll be going now," and the Smith does not give you an opportunity to buy the pick axes.
