Sister Petrine is a renowned Fereldan Chantry scholar writing during the Dragon Age. She covers a variety of diverse subjects in her works, including the history of Ferelden, the Chantry, the Fifth Blight, and the Tevinter Imperium. Ferelden: Folklore and History is one of her most significant works and even the critical Sister Lilian Hatch compliments it, stating 'few outsiders understood the nation of Ferelden as well as those who read her writings.'[1]
Though she is among the writers approved by the Chantry[2], some of her works are highly controversial.[1] Sister Petrine's frank approach to taboo topics like the Tevinter Imperium in Black City, Black Divine and Andraste's elven disciple, Shartan, in The Dissonant Verses has earned her much criticism from the Chantry, who object to her writing about such controversial topics in objective language that borders on contemptuous towards Chantry teachings. While her less controversial works have wide acceptance, some titles are recommended to be read with a highly critical eye, require extensive censorship before public consumption, or have been largely banned.[1] Excerpts from her work were reproduced in the Chantry reading guide Andraste's Bookshelf: Essential Tomes for the Painfully Devout by Sister Lilian Hatch with the sample from The Dissonant Verses being substantially redacted.[3]
Sister Petrine maintained a correspondence with Brother Genitivi, who wrote to her of his experiences visiting the Black Emporium in the Free Marches city of Kirkwall.[4]
