Orlesian Battledress
You have found part of an Orlesian masterwork leather armor. What it is doing in Fereldan is anyone's guess. It is not so much cut as unassembled. A tooling imprint suggests that there are six pieces in total.
Acquisition
Kill Jovi Merice and loot his body. You will obtain the first Masterwork Leather Piece and this will begin the quest.
Walkthrough
Denerim Market
Jovi Merice may be found in the Northernmost alley on the Denerim Market map. Click on him to start an extremely brief conversation that will result in combat to the death. Loot his body for the for the first of the six pieces.
Noble's Estate(1)
There are two pieces to be found in the Arl's estate on your first time through:
- Off the hallway there is a locked door. It's in a locked chest within the small room behind that door.
- The second is within the master bedroom in a locked ornate chest. See the Notes section below for information on unlocking this chest.
Noble's Estate(2)
There is one piece to be found in the Arl's estate on your return trip. It may be found in the room with the weapon master and the Mabari hounds. It's on an armor stand.
Dungeons
In the Arl's dungeons there is another piece to be found. After passing the second portcullis it may be found in the first room you can enter. It's in a locked footlocker.
Chantry
The final piece may be found within your room as soon as you awake in the Denerim Chantry. It's located in a desk drawer.
Rewards
Once all six pieces are collected:
- 1) 3000 xp will be added to Leliana's total.
- 2) The first time this occurs the player will be awarded the Provocateur achievement
- 3) The Battledress of the Provocateur armor will immediately be placed in Leliana's inventory.
- 4) Modified versions of the battledress will also be placed in the inventories of your other characters in both Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening. See Battledress of the Provocateur for details on the modifications. Characters created in the future for both Origins and Awakening will also find the battledress in their inventories.
Notes
If Leliana doesn't have Mechanical Expertise, she will need a high cunning score (26 is high enough, minimum is unknown) to open the ornate chest in the Master Bedroom. It is possible to acquire Mechanical Expertise by returning to the Noble's Estate after either gaining a level or buying a Tome from Bonny Lem at the hideout. The newly gained talent point may then be used to purchase mechanical expertise. Lem doesn't always carry the Tomes needed however, so be sure to save before placing the documents on the desk. This ensures that it will be possible to reload until he has one. Leaving the Noble's Estate without the Masterwork Leather Pieces makes finishing the Orlesian Battledress quest impossible.
