Open a Vein is a side quest in Dragon Age: Inquisition.
A letter found on a dwarven corpse suggests that a cave in the hills has a valuable vein of lyrium waiting to be mined.
Acquisition[]
Note: A Letter Found on a Dead Dwarf
Looting the letter found on a dead dwarf while in Smuggler's Cave will commence the quest. The cave is located in the Hinterlands, southeast from the The Outskirts Astrarium.
Walkthrough[]
The party will need to locate a lyrium vein within Ash Warrior's Refuge. The cave's location will be marked on the world map. Upon arrival, the party will encounter an elemental ice barrier, having a mage dispel the barrier will allow passage.
A Rebel Spellbinder and two lesser shades occupy the cavern. Dispatch the three and head to the lyrium vein at the end of the tunnel to complete the quest.

- It is entirely possible to have already ventured to the cave for one or more of the following quests Stone Dreams, In the Elements or Seeing Red, and have killed all the enemies within prior to obtaining the letter. This quest can still be completed upon obtaining the letter.
- A dwarven corpse can be found at the rear of the cave in front of the red lyrium vein; looting the corpse will yield the
Bianca Arms I (Enhanced) Schematic. - The apostate cache needed for the side quest In the Elements can be found down the left fork of cave.
