Myrion is a human mage from Ventus.

Background[]

Myrion was born into a family of slaves. He became a citizen after his magic manifested when he was fourteen years old,[1] when the owner of the factory where he and his family worked adopted him. He then studied magic at a university, where he learned some combat and healing magic. He also described taking a test on resisting demons, saying that a desire demon took the form of a boy he liked.

In Ventus, Myrion's job was to use magic to light glowing street lamps.[2]

Three Trees to Midnight
When the Qunari take Ventus, Myrion successfully hides his identity as a mage and is taken prisoner instead of killed or lobotomized with qamek like the other mages in the city. He is put to work chopping wood on the outskirts of Arlathan Forest under the guard of Bas-taar, shackled at the ankle to the elf Strife. Their relationship immediately turns antagonistic when Myrion calls him a filthy knife-ear. After trading insults back and forth, Myrion finally punches Strife in the face when the elf tries to guess what his occupation in Ventus was, and seems to be about to correctly guess that Myrion is a mage. Strife knocks him unconscious in return.

The next day, Strife, who is in fact spying on the Qunari for his Dalish clan, tries to get reassigned to another work detail but ends up nearly lobotomized instead. Myrion, still shackled to him, is forced to use his magic to kill their guard and save them both. Before they escape, Myrion gives all the other mindless prisoners—including his mage friend Jasecca—a merciful death by setting their tent on fire, alerting the Qunari. On the outskirts of the forest, Myrion and Strife meet Irelin, a shapeshifter mage from Strife's clan who gives him a bow, then leaves to warn the other clans of the Qunari plans. She promises to return by midnight.

While chased through the forest by Bas-taar and the Huntmaster, Strife and Myrion learn to work together. Myrion closes Strife's wounds with magic when the elf takes an arrow below the ribs. Strife takes out several Qunari with his bow. Irelin returns just in time to help them during their last stand. Using the chain that binds them together, Strife and Myrion manage to strangle Bas-taar, though he is ultimately killed by the Huntmaster, who reveals himself to be a member of the Ben-Hassrath called Saarbrak, investigating rumors that the Antaam did not act in accordance with the Qun in Ventus. Saarbrak orders the surviving Qunari to retreat.

Strife uses one of the axes they left behind to cut their chains. When Myrion says that he'll go on his way after a night's rest, Strife tells him that the clan isn't his place, but that, once upon a time, it wasn't his either.
