The Monstrous Spider is a much larger spider than the Giant Spider and appears only in Dragon Age II. Its attacks are also much stronger than its smaller siblings. Monstrous Spiders are encountered in the following areas of Dragon Age II: in the Deep Roads, in a cave near the Elven camp, and in the Bone Pit mine during the Justice (quest).
When fighting the Monstrous Spider during Justice, there is an easy way to beat it. Bring one or more ranged attackers in your party, and after dealing with all the other spiders that spawn along with the Monstrous Spider, run to the stairs near the entrace of the room. Stand at the bottom of the stairs. The spider should run over to where you are, but it won't be able to actually do anything to you. Just set your ranged attackers to auto-attack and wait for them to bring the spider down.
