The Warden has access to several merchants in Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening and Witch Hunt. Each has a limited stock which can vary depending on plot choices and whether certain milestones have been reached, but a few have Unlimited Supplies for some items.
Mechanics[]
Prices[]
- Main article: Item value
You can sell looted items to any merchant. Most pay one-fourth of the item value. Exceptions are Gorim, who pays twice as much if the Warden is of Dwarf Noble origin; and Armaas in Awakening, who pays less.
The price of each item on sale depends on the value of the item and the markup of the merchant. Each merchant applies the same markup to all their items. For example, the value of an iron scale armor is 50 silvers. Merchants who apply a 10% markup sell it for 55 silvers, while merchants who apply a 20% markup sell it for 60 silvers.
Buyback[]
Since merchants always sell items at a much higher price than they buy it, you incur a significant loss if you buy an item and later sell it back, and also if you buy back an item you sold. However, you can revert any buys or sales at no loss as long as you don't close the store interface. Clicking the last icon on each side of the store interface displays a list of the items bought and sold. From there you can return the items you bought and buy back those you sold.
Inventory changes[]
The inventory of most merchants changes as the game advances. This happens in three ways:
- Some merchants upgrade their inventories with more powerful items when the game reaches some milestones.
- Some merchants upgrade their inventories with more powerful items if the warden makes certain plot choices.
- The tier of non-magic items increases as the level of the party increases.
The tables below indicate when the first two types of change happen.
Tips[]
Loot sold at either the Party Camp or Warden's Keep remains in these merchants' respective inventories. Though the buyback list is cleared when you exit the merchant's window, the merchant keeps the items you sold them. This means that you can still buy items back, albeit at a higher price, as long as the merchant remains available. The party camp merchant resets his inventory twice based on certain plot events. Consider selling him the items you might want to recover some day, and avoid selling him extraneous junk, as this will make it more difficult to find useful items sold to them.
The party camp merchant has the highest prices in the early game (50% markup), so avoid buying from him what you can find elsewhere.
