Measuring the Veil is a companion quest for Solas in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Solas has learned of an artifact in the Hinterlands that he wishes to study.

Acquisition

The player will begin Measuring the Veil by going down the east road out of the Crossroads in the Hinterlands and taking a left at the fork. Solas will prompt the player into looking into some nearby elfish ruins for an artifact that may help prevent Veil Tears.

Walkthrough

Upon arriving at the ruin, the party will encounter a Dalish mage named Mihris fighting a demon. Should the player speak with her, Mihris will request aid in finding an elven artifact. Solas may comment. The player may either ignore Mihris, or accept her help, and she will follow the party into the ruin.

Within the ruin, there will be demons and wraiths posted just inside. The ruin is small, and is comprised only of the first chamber, and two sets of stairs that lead into a single long chamber below. In the main chamber, the party will encounter a small group of demons and discover a Veil-measuring device, which will prevent Tears when activated. Solas will comment, and his approval will raise upon its activation. From then on, his approval will raise slightly each time the player activates an artifact. If Mihris is with the party, she will discover something near the artifact. The player can chose to leave her, demand she hand over what she found, or have Solas handle it.

The interactions between Mihris and Solas do not seem to be friendly on Solas' part. Should the player inquire into Mihris' purpose, she will answer that she is in service of her clan. She noticed the Breach and decided to do something about it. She will claim that she knows more about magic than a Shemlen, in which Solas will comment "Ma harel, da'len". Mihris responds fearfully, and suggests that the party continue on.

After activating the artifact, the player has the choice of having Solas handle persuading Mihris to hand over what she found. Solas will say a line in elvish -- ma halani ma gladival vir enasalin -- that effectively scares Mihris into handing over an Amulet of Power that can only be used for Solas. Solas' approval will raise afterwards.

Or a dalish Herald can persuade her to hand it over saying "mana ma halani" continuing to say how they have few to trust without there own turning on them which also results in the amulet being handed over and an increase in Approval with Solas (but a slight disaproval with Sera if she is present for this discussion)
