“Because we're templars!”

Mattrin is a former templar recruit who joined the Inquisition after being rescued by Inquisition forces.

Background[]

Mattrin used to be a Templar recruit. When the senior members of the Order attended the Divine Conclave in the Temple of Sacred Ashes, the lower-ranking templars remained outside its grounds. As a result, they survived the opening of the Breach. In the aftermath Mattrin and fellow Templar Lysette found themselves besieged by demons, but were rescued by the Inquisition forces and brought to the safety of Haven.

Involvement[]

Mattrin can be found in the military camp outside Haven. In a conversation with Lysette, he tries to convince her that they cannot stay with the Inquisition. Although his companion argues that the Templar Order is in disarray, and no longer serving its purpose, Mattrin remains skeptical.

Despite his objections, Mattrin continues to follow the Inquisition. After the destruction of Haven and relocation to Skyhold, he can occasionally be seen wandering around the fortress.

Trivia[]

Mattrin shares the same name and occupation as Ellendra's lover, as witnessed via the following note.

She will tell that should they fight amongst themselves instead of protecting the mages and she will say that should she and he declare independence on their own march off and do nothing. Mattrin will tell Lysette that it's better than staying with the Inquisition. Lysette will tell him that he is quick to dismiss the people who saved his life.
