The Marquis de Montsimmard is an Orlesian noble, a Chevalier, and a supporter of Grand Duke Gaspard de Chalons in the Orlesian Civil War.
Background[]
The name of his family, Montsimmard, is also given to the city that forms the heart of their lands. His and his wife's masks are both adorned with lyrium, a gift from the First Enchanter of the Orlesian Circle of Magi.[1]
In his youth, Montsimmard graduated from the Academie des Chevaliers, and was quite a soldier. However, while fighting in a Grand Melee, his arm was badly broken and did not heal properly, forcing him to retire from battle and soldiery. Since then, he has gained weight due to his reduced level of exercise.
At some point, he married, and he and his wife Lady Montsimmard had a daughter, Lienne. Lienne was found to have magical talent, but her parents concealed this fact due to the fact that Lady Montsimmard accurately predicted that there would be a violent conflict in the future between mages and templars.[2] He was willing to risk execution by the Templars to protect her from the coming war between Mages and Templars.
Montsimmard enjoys verbally jousting with other nobles, such as when we teases Comte Chantral by asking what else there is to do in Velun besides drink. Despite the fact that he has long been retired from the Chevaliers, he still holds the order in high regard, and takes great offense to any insult to the Chevaliers, real or imagined. Empress Celene I Valmont considers him to be dangerous.
