The Lighthouse serves as the headquarters for the Veilguard.[1] Located inside the Fade, it was formerly Solas' base of operations.[2]
Background[]
The Lighthouse, also known as the Vhen'Theneras[3], was the legendary sanctum of the Dread Wolf. Within it lies the Dread Wolf's personal eluvian, called the Vi'Revas. Meaning "freedom of ways," the Vi'Revas could travel to any other eluvian of Solas's choosing. Though the Vi'Revas is ancient and was designed by Solas, it seems willing to aid and transport the wielder of Solas' lyrium dagger. Unless directed otherwise by Rook's team during plot missions, the Vi'Revas opens a portal to The Crossroads, which is a pocket dimension in the Fade that leads to other entrances of other eluvians.[4]
Once, the Lighthouse was a place of learning, with tools to study the secret workings of great magic. When Solas rebelled against the Evanuris, the Lighthouse became his center of operations, with tools to study the best ways to free the elves and spirits from the tyranny of the Evanuris. The magic of the Lighthouse provides for its inhabitants' needs and comfort. It also automatically helps its inhabitants understand different languages, making communication between people of different ethnic groups easier.[5]
The Lighthouse is inhabited by a spirit named the Caretaker, who appears to be the steward of The Crossroads and perhaps the Lighthouse as well. The Caretaker provides guidance on using the Vi'Revas, passes messages from visitors to Rook, initiates several small puzzles within the Lighthouse, and can eventually be used to upgrade and enchant armor for Rook and Rook's companions.
Involvement[]
Several members of the Veilguard reside in the lighthouse alongside Rook. Varric can be found within the Infirmary, Bellara in the workshop, and Neve in the guesthouse to the left of the dining hall. Harding is located in the conservatory and Lucanis resides in the pantry. Davrin's guesthouse is between the conservatory and the dining hall, with Assan found at the bottom of the steps leading to his building. North of Rook's room is the laboratory where Emmrich will reside and the storage room south of the infirmary will be occupied by Taash.

Music Room[]
First Puzzle[]
North of the communal table in the Library is a round door which initially does not open. To the right of the door is a note which reads Three meetings, face-to-face, under the sky. which is a hint as to how to unlock it. Go outside the Library and there are three pairs of statues to pair by pointing each of a pair at the other using the activate switch on the statue.
- Exit the Library, go either north or south, climb the circular steps, and walk to the middle area above the Library door. Both statues are here; point them at each other.
- Go south along the Library balcony to where it meets the steps going back down. Point this statue east towards the Dining Hall. Go to the south side of the exterior of the Dining Hall and up a small flight of steps. Point this statue west back towards the first one.
- Go north behind the Workshop and point the statue east towards the Study. Go to the walkway leading to the Study and drop to the area below. Continue north and point the statue there west towards the first statue.
Once all three pairs are correctly matched, Rook will say, That did something. Go back to the round door and it will now open up a passage leading to the Music Room. In the Music Room are some loot chests and on the harpsichord, Codex entry: Memories of A Duet. The room also contains a number of easter eggs to past games: a egg-shaped object like the ones used to raise paths in Trespasser, Solas-style frescoes like in the Rotunda of Skyhold, a large number of cheese wheels, an astrarium, and the broken remnants of the Orb of Destruction on a table.
Second Puzzle[]
Once all of the companions have been recruited, the Caretaker will appear by the round door and announce, Another helper waits between the facing gods. Go into the Music Room to find a wisp waiting there. Guide it to one of the wisp receptacles on either side of the round door on the west side of the Music Room. Then, following the Caretaker's hint, go back outside to the pair of statues directly above the Library's main door. Guide the wisp found here to the other receptacle in the Music Room. The door will turn into a portal which Rook can step through to reach a small balcony above the west side of the Library. Here there is another codex, Codex entry: On Leaving the Lighthouse, and an astrolabe which resembles one of the Veil Measuring artifacts from Measuring the Veil. Activate this object and after a brief cutscene, the Caretaker will state that the Library has been repaired, and the game will notify you that Rook now has a discount for leveling the Workshop. This also enables the desk at the top center of the Library stairs where Rook can change the Lighthouse theme.
Third Puzzle[]
After The Siege of Weisshaupt, head back to the Music Room. Inside, the Caretaker will state that a helper is waiting at the balcony. Travel through the portal to the balcony, retrieve the wisp, and bring it back to the empty receptacle across from the portal. This will open a second portal in front of Rook. Go through the new portal to an outdoor balcony overlooking the main courtyard from the south. Here is a note with the codex Logs from the Watchtower and a chest. Activate the beam by placing the power crystal in the socket, then point the beam at the three nodes above the roofs: one to the west and two to the north. As each is activated, a wisp will release and fly towards the Library. Returning through the portal, the Caretaker will announce, "Another library door opens."
Go back to the Library and enter the now-open round door on the wall opposite the Music Room. Go through the portal at the end of the hallway to Solas' personal quarters, The Wolf's Den. There are some resources here, some loot, the codex On Rifts and Ritual Research, and another chest. Go east out a door to a balcony overlooking the entire Lighthouse grounds and enjoy the view.
