Dragon Age: Origins

This section contains spoilers for:
Dragon Age: Origins.

If Kieran's father is The Warden:
Kieran was conceived on the eve of the Battle of Denerim as part of a ritual his mother had proposed. In fathering the child, The Warden ensured that the soul of the Archdemon would pass into Kieran, making the sacrifice of a Grey Warden's life unnecessary.
If Kieran's father is Loghain:
After being conscripted into the Grey Wardens, Loghain Mac Tir reluctantly underwent a dark ritual with Morrigan at The Warden's behest. Loghain conceived Kieran with Morrigan and thus ensured that no Warden would die when the Archdemon was slain.
If Alistair is Kieran's father:
Despite his shock at the prospect, Alistair eventually agreed to lay with Morrigan, conceiving Kieran and saving the life of the Warden who would have otherwise have given their life to end the Blight.
Upon the death of Urthemiel atop Fort Drakon, the Archdemon's uncorrupted soul passed into Kieran.
