Lady Johane Harimann is the matriarch of the noble Harimann family of Kirkwall.
Background[]
Lady Harimann was the mastermind behind the assassination of the Vaels, the ruling family of Starkhaven. Lady Johane took control of the Harimann family following her father's death. She murdered the Vaels (who had been long-time friends of the Harimanns until Johane's betrayal) in order to further her own family's power. She placed Goran Vael on the throne of Starkhaven, as she believed she could easily manipulate him. To solidify her hold, she prepared to force her daughter, Flora, into marriage with Goran.
Involvement[]
Sebastian Vael enlists the aid of Hawke in visiting the Harimann Estate after he discoveres that Lady Harimann was behind the murder of his parents and brothers. Inside the estate, the Harimanns are shown to be behaving very oddly, which Sebastian comments is completely out of character.
In the caves which run beneath the estate, Lady Harimann is discovered convening with a Desire Demon, Allure. It transpires that she unearthed the Demon while expanding the Estate and used her family, giving them to the desire demon in order to gain more power in an attempt to control Starkhaven. She naively believed that she was strong enough to resist the demon but it subtly influenced her until all she could think of was seizing Starkhaven. Lady Johane attacks Hawke and Sebastian but is killed and her family freed from the demon's clutches.

Notes[]
- Although Lady Harimann is a blood mage in gameplay, when asked whether her mother was a mage, Flora says that they've never had magic in their family and that this might have made her mother too confident when it came to dealing with demons
- Wynne mentions that mages can only be born, not made. A non-mage Inquisitor, even with the anchor fused to their hand never get magical powers either wich is validated by Solas. Demons can bestows magical powers, but only once in full possession of a body and only their own. This could indicate that Johane was an apostate during her entire lifetime and somehows managed to conceal it from everyone who knew her (wich include her own family and allies) for entire decades without anyone ever having any doubt or suspicion. Unless Johane was a completely unflappable little girl to the point of being almost emotionless (since magic answers to emotions during childhood), hiding her true nature for so long would have been all but impossible, especially in Kirkwall.
