During the peril of the Second Blight, the Avvar of the Frostback Basin resented the inaction of Ferelden and summoned their god, Hakkon, in the form of a dragon. According to Thane Svarah Sun-Hair, it was at this time that Hakkon was rendered unable to hear their prayers nor communicate with the Augurs of the Hold. All he was able to do was kill. He then disappeared, and was considered lost to the Avvar.

Unknown to the Avvar, Inquisitor Ameridan was sent by Kordillus Drakon I to ensure the safety of Orlais from destruction by Hakkon. Ameridan was unable to slay the dragon, but was able to seal both himself and it with time magic, remaining in stasis for eight hundred years. By 9:41 Dragon, the Jaws of Hakkon attempted to draw their god into another vessel.

The Hakkonites demonstrate unprovoked hostility towards the Inquisition, attacking their agent and researchers across the Frostback Basin.

Despite their hostility towards the Inquisition, the Hakkonites maintain a peace oath with the resident Stone-Bear Hold and would not attack the Inquisition on the Hold's grounds.

The Hakkonites were responsible for abducting Stone-Bear Hold's hold-beast, Storvacker, planning on sacrificing her before the Inquisitor rescued her. With their plot exposed to Stone-Bear Hold, Thane Sun-Hair, declared the peace oath broken.

When the Inquisitor activated all the magical trail markers, melting the ice wall protecting the Hakkonite fortress, though the archers on the wall prevent entry. With the aid of Stone-Bear Hold, the Inquisition manages to breach the fortress as the Hakkonite leader, Thane Gurd Harofsen, was attempting to draw the spirit of Hakkon from the dragon into himself, turning himself into a Revenant, who was subsequently defeated by the Inquisitor.
