Acquisition[]

Complete the war table operation; Investigate Frostback Basin to begin. This mission can be activated upon reaching Skyhold. However, if played after completing the main story, various decisions from the main game will be acknowledged and discussed. While the mission requires 8 power to start, note that, as with other DLC areas in Inquisition, the difficulty of the enemies in the Frostback Basin will scale to the average level of your party when you first unlock it at the War Table.

Plot[]

Enter an overgrown wilderness filled with Avvar, fiercely independent hunters who settled in the southern mountains of Thedas. Explore the culture to uncover what happened to the last Inquisitor and the dragon he pursued. Find an ancient Tevinter fortress that hides a dangerous secret.

Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Professor Bram Kenric of the University of Orlais sent word to the Inquisition that he'd found clues regarding the final resting place of the last Inquisitor, Ameridan, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances in the early years of the Divine Age. He believes that this discovery would be beneficial to both academic research and the Inquisition itself, and asks that the Inquisitor join him in the Frostback Basin to help him in his investigation. The region is also home to two different groups of Avvar: those of Stone-Bear Hold, friendly to the Inquisition, and the hostile Jaws of Hakkon.

During their investigation, the Inquisitor learns that Ameridan came to the Frostback Basin on Emperor Drakon I's orders to stop an invasion of the lowlands by the original Jaws of Hakkon. To help them in their endeavor, the Hakkonites had bound the spirit of their god Hakkon Wintersbreath to a High Dragon. As Orlais was already facing the Second Blight, another invasion would have been devastating. Ameridan succeeded in stopping the dragon by freezing them both in time. However, the modern Hakkonites have found a way to transfer Hakkon to another vessel, and are planning on finishing their predecessors' work and invade the lowlands.

The Inquisitor enlists the aid of the Avvar of Stone-Bear Hold to assault the Hakkonite fortress, and their combined forces allow the Inquisitor to get inside to confront their leader, Gurd Harofsen. Though they manage to defeat him before he can complete the ritual, the dragon escapes the fortress. Ameridan is freed as well, though he only has a few minutes to talk before time finally catches up with him.

The Inquisitor goes to confront the dragon and kills him, finally freeing Hakkon Wintersbreath from his centuries of confinement.
