Iona is a City Elf from the Elven Alienage in Denerim who was elevated to the position of lady-in-waiting by Lady Landra, wife of Bann Loren, for her family's many years of loyal service. Described as being sweet, shy, and demure, she is present at Castle Cousland in Highever with Lady Landra and Dairren in the Human Noble Origin story.
She has a daughter named Amethyne, whose father passed away from a wasting disease two years before. Amethyne can later by found alone in the Alienage during the quest Unrest in the Alienage. Iona refers to her as her life, and Amethyne is said to look a great deal like her mother.
Because Lady Landra's manor is not large enough to accommodate Iona's family, Amethyne lives in the Alienage, where she has the opportunity to learn about her racial culture.
If the Warden is male, after introducing Iona, Lady Landra will embarrass her by pointing out that she appears to have a crush on him. This presents the Warden with an opportunity to flirt with her, which Iona responds to positively.
While only a male Warden gets this opportunity to flirt with Iona, either a male or female Warden can bed her. After this initial encounter, Iona and Dairren can both be found in the study of the library.
The Warden can engage in a conversation with Iona, in which there are several opportunities to flirt with her. At the end of the conversation, if Iona has been flirted with at least twiceTemplate:Confirmation needed, the Warden can suggest they get to know each other better. Iona will ask for clarification, to which the Warden has the option of inviting her up to his/her room.
Iona will accept, so long as the Warden has not already propositioned Dairren.
Later, the Warden can come across her daughter Amethyne sitting alone in the Denerim Alienage. While no face to face dialogue can be initiated, one of the things she wonders aloud about is when her mother will return from Highever. This happens regardless of whether or not the Warden slept with Iona; it can be assumed that if the Warden did not choose to bed her, Iona was otherwise killed or captured in the attack, although her body is not visible at Castle Cousland during the attack.
