“You're standing in my dirt.”

Ines Arancia is a botanist and one of Wynne's colleagues from the Circle of Magi in Ferelden.

Involvement[]

This section contains spoilers for:
Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening.

If Wynne is not killed in Dragon Age: Origins:
She can be encountered in the City of Amaranthine just outside the Chantry of Our Lady Redeemer. Wynne will ask the Warden-Commander to find Ines for the quest Ines the Botanist. Ines has spent the last several months in the Wending Wood searching for plants, in particularly the Northern Prickleweed Seeds, which are very rare and rumored to be able to grow on blighted land.
The College of Magi has planned to convene in Cumberland, Nevarra during which time the Libertarian Fraternity intends to propose a motion of secession from the Chantry. Ines, meanwhile, has been busy in the Wending Wood and outside of contact from the Circle. Wynne asks the Warden to convince her to attend the College, as she is a well-respected mage and a voice of reason that, Wynne hopes, will help secure the dominance of the Aequitarians and prevent an open rebellion of the mages from occurring. Ines is not particularly fond of Wynne and will refuse to leave the Wending Wood until she obtains the Northern Prickleweed Seeds. She has also written several books on botany.

Trivia[]

  • Ines is only referred to by her first name during her appearance in Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening. Her full name is given in various Codex entries written by her in Dragon Age II.
  • In the Witch Hunt DLC, a book by Ines can be found in the Circle Tower by searching the index M - S, selecting "Restorative Draughts: Creation and Distillation" and going to the Expert Herbalism section to find the book titled Ines Arancia's Botanical Compendium. This is the same book the Warden Commander can mention that contained "pretty pictures" if they have the herbalism skill.
  • All codex entries on plants in Dragon Age II are written by Ines as excerpts from Ines Arancia's Botanical Compendium and all but four codex entries on plants in Dragon Age: Inquisition are styled the same way.
