House Cadash is a dwarven crime family which is part of the Carta. They were formerly a warrior house with Cadash Thaig being their ancestral home. However, as exiles they are now casteless surfacers specialized in smuggling lyrium across Thedas and working wherever the Carta saw profit to be made.[1]

Background[]

House Cadash was exiled from Orzammar several generations before the Dragon Age. Only the Shaperate knows the exact reasoning behind it but it's revealed that House Cadash was feared long before its exile and that their "offensive" methods used in an attempt to find information about a particular war golem from the First Blight were seemingly the last straw.[2] House Cadash eventually became a prominent crime family of the Carta operating across various city-states in the Free Marches. Since then House Cadash has come to specialize in smuggling lyrium across Thedas.

Shayle, a member of the house and a friend of Paragon Caridin, volunteered to be transformed by the Anvil of the Void into a golem around -255 Ancient (940 TE). She was the only woman to ever volunteer. An unspecified time later, she fell into stasis in Cadash Thaig.[3]

In 9:41 Dragon, a Carta dwarf of the Cadash family was sent to spy on the Divine Conclave at the Temple of Sacred Ashes seeking to put an end to the Mage-Templar War, since the conclave would have an enormous impact on the demand for lyrium.

If the Inquisitor is a dwarf:
After a cataclysmic event, Cadash ended up becoming the Inquisitor, the leader of the reformed Inquisition. It is later later revealed that The Dasher, the leader of a Carta clan who supplied Cadash the lyrium to sell at the Divine Conclave, believes that Cadash ran off with his lyrium and now hides behind the Inquisition for protection. Lantos, Cadash's associate in the Carta, notifies the dwarven Inquisitor that The Dasher is mobilizing his Carta cell to conduct a manhunt for Inquisitor Cadash. During the war table operation the Carta Gets Its Cut, the dwarven Inquisitor can remove the threat to their life. In a later war table operation, Lantos informs the Inquisition that the Venatori have been buying lyrium from the Carta and were planning on a trade at the Storm Coast. He also informed them of The Dasher's plans to assassinate a dwarven noble ambassador to the Inquisition. The Inquisition foils both schemes.

If Varric is friends with Inquisitor Cadash:
By 9:44 Varric Tethras is the new Viscount of Kirkwall and if he is friends with the dwarven Inquisitor he will attend the Exalted Council, and offer House Cadash an official seat on the Dwarven Merchants' Guild. Varric also gifts the Inquisitor the title of Comte/Comtesse and holdings in Kirkwall.
