Herren

“You'd better be very proud, Wade. We can't afford any more flights of fancy.”

Herren is a merchant working at Wade's Emporium located in the Denerim Market District. Herren's partner,^[1] Wade, owns the business but his unrelenting perfectionism and quirkiness has left him with very few customers, forcing him to hand over sales to Herren in order to avoid going completely out of business. The arrangement has proven lucrative, as Wade can concentrate solely on his smithing allowing Herren to focus on bringing in revenue.

Dragon Age: Origins[]

Herren can be found at their shop in Denerim, where he sells a number of items. In order to obtain most of Wade's drakeskin and dragonbone armor, the Warden must offer the necessary materials after speaking to Herren. He will stop selling to you after you commission a second set of Drake Scale Armor because of the time lost through Wade's efforts to perfect the armour. In spite of this he will permit Wade to forge the Dragon Scale armour when Wade claims he can complete the armour quickly.

Herren travels along with Wade to Vigil's Keep. Herren himself claims he chose to move the shop there, much to the dismay of Wade, who dislikes the colder climate of Amaranthine and refers to the fortress as "this dreadful turnip keep". Wade however states the reason for their presence was that they were offered a hefty sum from the royal treasury as an enticement.

He also offers the Warden-Commander the opportunity to bring him and Wade Iron Ore, Veridium Ore and Silverite Ore so that Wade can dramatically improve the armors of Vigil's keep's soldiers which proves instrumental to establishing the Silver Order as the Grey Wardens support troops.

The Darkspawn Chronicles[]

Wade and Herren attempt to re-arm and supply the defenders in the Market District during the battle of Denerim. Eventually he and Wade are cornered in an alley next to the Denerim Cathedral by the Darkspawn. Herren transforms into a desire demon and seemingly vanishes along with Wade out of the city.

Although he seems to have become a desire demon in the timeline where Denerim fell to the Darkspawn, this does not seem to be the case anywhere else.^[2]

Herren contacts the Inquisition, offering to exchange Wade's notes on working high dragon materials in exchange for the dragon materials already collected.

Herren's pragmatism counterparts Wade's idealism. If the Warden completes the Origins quest paying 10 then 20 gold, Herren refuses to do business despite the Warden's status as a valued customer.
pcxbox360Herren's shop inventory could be reset after the first upgrade to Vigil's Keep, i.e. after Cost of Doing Business was completed and the repairs were done (indicated by new gates having been installed).

Bugs[]

pcIf you ask Wade about the cost of making the first suit of armor (after presenting the Drake Scales to him), Herren will always refer to the Warden as a male.
It may be a bug that Herren does not sell anything after the last battle for Vigil's Keep, but he's still shown as a merchant on the map.
