Baron Havard-Pierre d'Amortisan is an Orlesian noble known for studying bizarre beasts encountered across Thedas.

Involvement[]

This section contains spoilers for:
Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Havard-Pierre traveled with his scribe Dunwich to the Frostback Basin in search of the legendary Nox Morta. When Inquisition soldiers face delays setting up camps due to interference from the local wildlife, the baron is tasked with creating herb wards to keep the beasts away. The Inquisitor can find him at his camp just north of the Basin Floor Camp. While giving the Inquisitor the necessary wards, d'Amortisan also asks that they try and find his scribe, who has been absent for some time and whom he fears dead.

Once the wards have been placed and Dunwich found safe, the baron asks the Inquisitor to help him track the Nox Morta and prove its existence. If the Inquisitor agrees, they will eventually find that the beast is just an unusually large bogfisher.

Trivia[]

  • D'Amortisan wrote An Anatomie of Various Terrible Beasts, excerpts of which appear several times in the codex. His work is approved by the Chantry and has made him very popular in Val Royeaux.[4]
  • He and his quests are likely inspired by Howard Philips Lovecraft, Havard being the French equivalent of Howard and d'Amortisan being a portmanteau of the French words for "love" and "craft." His scribe Dunwich might take his name from The Dunwich Horror, one of Lovecraft's short stories. In addition, d'Amortisan's amusingly melodramatic and verbose style is based on Lovecraft's.[5]

Bugs[]

  • Though the interaction tooltip labels the quest giver as "Havard-Pierre d'Amortisan", his associated quests list him as "Henri-Pierre d'Amortisan". The name on this article and all related quests have been modified for continuity.
