The Hand of Glory is an undead, magical, severed hand.
Background[]
The Hand of Glory allows simpler undead to be blind to its bearer when its tapers are lit. Only a skilled necromancer is able to produce this forbidden necromancy.[1]
Involvement[]
Dragon Age: The Veilguard[]
It is revealed that Johanna Hezenkoss made a Hand of Glory out of her own hand and lent it to the Venatori so they can access and infiltrate the Grand Necropolis.[2] Emmrich Volkarin and the Veilguard use the lingering magic enchanting the Hand of Glory to track the rogue necromancer in the manor. As they investigate the manor, they discover the Hand of Glory belongs to Johanna Hezenkoss, who reanimates the magical hand and reattach it to her arm.[1]
Trivia[]
- The Hand of Glory is based on a Hand of Glory, the dried and pickled hand of a hanged man, often specified as being the left, or of a murderer. According to old European beliefs, a candle made of the fat from a malefactor who died on the gallows, lighted, and placed (as if in a candlestick) in the Hand of Glory, which comes from the same man as the fat in the candle, would render motionless all persons to whom it was presented. The Hand of Glory also purportedly had the power to unlock any door it came across.
