== Background ==
The griffons once served as mounts for the [[Grey Wardens]], who still use them as their [[symbol]]. The number of griffons slowly dwindled after the [[Fourth Blight]], before finally becoming extinct 200 years prior to the outbreak of the [[Fifth Blight]], during the [[Storm Age]].

The rank of the High Constable, who is the second-in-command of the Grey Wardens, used to be the aerial commander during the Wardens' use of griffons.<ref>[[High Constable's Mace]]</ref>

* Some of the armour that was used by the Grey Warden griffon riders can still be found in the Grey Warden's item stash in [[Denerim]].
