Gregory Dedrick is the mayor of the Village of Crestwood in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Background

This section contains spoilers for:
Dragon Age: Inquisition.

During the Fifth Blight Crestwood took in refugees from the Fereldan Civil War and the Blight, most of whom were infected by the darkspawn taint. Learning that the taint is usually fatal, at the best, and with the darkspawn closing in, the mayor saw no other option than to flood Old Crestwood and the caves beneath, and drown darkspawn, refugees and even a few citizens of Crestwood altogether.

Involvement

This section contains spoilers for:
Dragon Age: Inquisition.

When the Inquisitor arrives at the village, they persuade the mayor to allow them access to the controls for the area's dam in the keep of Caer Bronach, in order to drain the reserve and enter Old Crestwood with the intent of closing the Fade rift, which is allowing spirits into the world who in turn are animating the undead attacking the village. Fearing that evidence would be found, exposing his deeds, and unable to bear the sight of his old home due to his own guilt, the mayor leaves a note, confessing his crimes, and flees.

The Inquisition eventually locates and captures Dedrick, and he is brought to Skyhold to face judgment. Dedrick willingly confesses his crimes but states that he only acted because he could not see any alternative in order to save as many lives as he could.

The Inquisitor may:

  • Exile Gregory Dedrick
  • Execute him
  • Hand him over to Ferelden for trial
  • Conscript him into the Grey Wardens since his actions were crimes of the Blight (requires completion of the quest Here Lies the Abyss, with the Wardens not being exiled)
If conscripted into the Wardens, Dedrick will remark he does not deserve the honour but that he will try his best.
