Hey, just as the title says, why don't demons ever possess Darkspawn? It can't have anything to do with the taint, as both Anders and Kristoff both get possessed, both of whom are corrupted with the taint as well. As best I can tell, Rage demons and Desire demons should both be drawn to them like crazy... RomeoReject (talk) 22:30, June 7, 2012 (UTC)

If you remember Avernus though, he said the Taint was utterly alien to demons. Demons and spirits are shaped by the minds and dreams of Men and Elves. I presume with the Darkspawn they are mindless killing machines, part of a hive mind, or a gestalt consciousness, there's nothing there to possess. OR it could be that demons want to experience the mortal world, through a mortal's mind, so what happens when the mortal in question has no mind. I imagine it would be like locked-in syndrome. Trapped in a body, unable to do anything. Or something like that. It could also be the Archdemon's "Song" drowns out the demons. --Madasamadthing (talk) 22:41, June 7, 2012 (UTC)

Or maybe demons have the least of hygiene and don't want to live inside something that never takes a bath, or lives underground and such... Plus it's a lot more interesting to posses a powerful mage or a noble!--Luca The Kickass Bard (talk) 22:48, June 7, 2012 (UTC)

Perhaps demons can only possess something with a soul? Darkspawn don't have souls so....Well it's just speculation anyway.

But, apparently, an Archdemon has a soul, and can resurrect itself if that soul re-enters a soulless vessel(darkspawn). So why hasn't any Archdemon been possessed? ...Or have they...? O.o DeltaEcho (talk) 23:28, June 7, 2012 (UTC)

Perhaps they have no connection to the fade. I'm not sure if they are even magical. Can demons possess creatures? On that note, what about Kitty? Was she a cat that got possessed, or a demon in the form of a cat? Hmmm.... Also, maybe the Archdemon is to powerful to possess. Archdemons are gods after all.

An interesting question. I would say that darkspawn and archdemons don't get possessed because they don't dream. Their minds are set up very differently than those of the sentient races. The function via a hive mind which doesn't really dream. While the archdemon does control said hive mind there is no reason to believe that it has dreams. Furthermore, if archdemons are in fact gods trapped underground they would be of a much higher order than demons or spirits. Thus any attempt to possess them would be futile. As for sentient darkspawn, they may be disconnected from the hive mind for the most part that doesn't mean that their minds would enter the fade. It's very possible that when they sleep, they experience only blackness. No mental images until they awaken. For instance Corypheus wasn't aware he had been gone for a long time. He was sealed, forced to slumber, and awoke not realizing time had gone by. If you were dreaming for centuries on end you'd be a bit aware of it. That's a lot of speculation on my part but I think the reasoning is sound. Tyrannus3 (talk) 23:39, June 7, 2012 (UTC)

It may have something to do with the taint within them or the fact that they are demons which would be the reason why they cannot be possessed. All hail Darkside! 203.45.127.20 (talk) 00:36, June 8, 2012 (UTC)

I think it might be equal parts Taint and connection to the Fade. Wardens have the Taint, but they were mortals first. (Given that we never see a Dwarf Abomination, Warden or no, I'll exclude them from discussion out of hand.) But the Taint might make it harder to possess a Warden.

Kristoff was already dead, so Justice came to inhabit a body unoccupied by a soul. An Abomination occurs when a Fade spirit merges with a mortal's soul, so Kristoff!Justice is technically not an Abomination. In Anders's case, he invited Justice in, so possession of a Tainted individual is possible. (Likewise, so is the Tainting of a possessed individual, as seen in the case of Blighted Werewolves.) But spiritual possession does seems to conflict with the Taint, as Justice takes over when Anders can no longer resist the call of Corypheus.

I think the key factor is that mortals may be corrupted by the Taint and become Ghouls, but true Darkspawn are born of the Taint itself. Their magic comes from the Taint, rather than the Fade. As for Archdemons, the jury is still out on whether those are simply Tainted dragons or actual physical gods of some kind. For all we know, the Old Gods of Tevinter may have been Dragon Abominations. (Thinking about it now, it makes a lot of sense, considering that blood magic and demon-summoning are a big thing in Tevinter.)

Re: The Milkma. Yes, spirits can also possess animals. The original werewolves of Ferelden were wolves possessed by demons. Son Goharotto (talk) 16:27, June 8, 2012 (UTC)
