I wasn't a huge Aveline fan. I don't dislike her, but I like most of the other characters more (but not you Sebastian). I feel bad for saying it but part of the lost appeal is that I don't find her character attractive. I feel bad for saying because we need that in games and movies and everything else, fact is not everyone is super-model gorgeous. On another note, I don't like sword and shield fighters. I'm sure they're strategically important in insane difficulties, but my playing on Normal or occasionally Hard I'm looking for flashier and more fun companions instead of Aveline smacking enemies with her shield. Lastly I always deviate slightly from the righteous path and enjoy dishing out my own justice and breaking laws when it suits me. As your own character it's fun to uphold the law and keep people in line, not so much to have another character in your ear telling you you shouldn't be doing that when (unlawful or not) I'm completely in the right and damn well going to do it regardless. She's not bad and I don't hate her at all, I just like the other companions more. TKismyname (talk) 07:58, July 25, 2011 (UTC)

I love Aveline. And, like someone said above, the only thing that pinched me was not being able to romance here. Damn that Donnic with his...good man being self. Why all the Aveline hate? Realy? In my many journeys through the interwab I've seen much more hate for Carver, Isabella, Merrill and even poor Bethany than I have for Aveline. The only reason I've seen is because she's a cop, a silly reason in my view. Personly I like her and would have gone for the romance if that were an option. But, alas, she ends up with that mutton chop wearing fool Donnic. *sigh* Andy the Black (talk) 15:57, July 25, 2011 (UTC)

Like Diyartifact said this woman is selfish, self-righteous and ungrateful. Shes a terrible Captain of the guards. Shes very incompetent. As Guard captain she failed to capture the murderer that killed my mother. Shes just as corrupted as the previous Captain that she sent to prison. As far as her appearance goes I don't really care what she looks like. Pretty, ugly, fat, skinny... if she had a great personality I would go after her, and I actually did on my first game play. I wanted to romance her, but she kept blowing me off. I had a large mansion and enough money to care for this woman, and she goes off and has wet dreams about another guardsmen, Donnic. She had the audacity to ask me to hook her up with this man when I'm trying so hard to romance her. I don't fricken think so! I don't care how many negative points I get from my decision of not helping her... I won't help some guy woo the woman that I've tried so hard to get. Personally I always loved that rather then bitch and whine whenever Hawke does something she disagrees with her reaction is usually just "That was a dumb thing to do"and then she rolls her eyes and moves on. Hawke and Carver brought Aveline stinken ass to Kirkwall by being in servitude for a year and this is what she does in return? By telling them not to accept Carvers Guard application? Just when things can't get any worst, if you leave him behind on the trip to the deep roads, when Mage Hawke returns back home with wealth at his side... Carver joins the rank of the Templars. Thank you so much Aveline for not helping the man out you liar. --LordRaijin (talk) 20:44, June 24, 2013 (UTC)

:Oooor! Hear me out....Aveline thought Carver would not fit in with the Guard. Carver's mentality pretty much the overshadowed son and there is a lot of anger there. He's either overshadowed by Hawke being a better fighter (and then Carver dies) or he's the only normal kid in a family of mages. That kind of anger and resentment are not qualities you want in someone who has to deal with people on a daily basis, be they criminals or merchants. Aveline knew that and hoped Carver would find a better outlet than a thoroughly corrupt organisation like the City Guard before Aveline became Captain. And he does. If Carver joins the Wardens, he admits he was a douche and is happy that he has a means of making his own mark on the world. If he joins the Templars, he sees the fate his father and siblings feared. In both cases, Carver reconciles with his sibling, which is a far better fate than what might have awaited him in the Guard.--Madasamadthing (talk) 22:58, June 24, 2013 (UTC)

Seems to me she did care for Carver as family there are other examples for other companions F(Fenris and Anders in particular) Aveline wasn't above bending the rules to help those she cared about but I always felt like she had her own sense of how far she'd go, it was admirable. --Tabris.the.great (talk) 00:08, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

Forums: Index > Game DiscussionWhy all the hate for Aveline?
Note: This topic has been unedited for 3938 days. It is considered archived - the discussion is over. Do not continue it unless it really needs a response.

I've noticed in a lot of forums that many people dislike Aveline, many of course cite the fact that she doesn't mesh w/ the conventional standard of beauty. But I find Aveline as one of the most compelling characters in the game. 173.19.206.176 (talk) 05:32, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

Maybe it's because the one straight female companion we get in DA2 can't even be romanced.....seriously though, I don't have a problem with her per se, it's just I like being a dastardly, kinky bastard, which causes characters like her to bitch at me XD--LordRevan25 (talk) 05:40, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

Actually if you follow a certain path during her courting quest as a female you can get the "what if we" convo after she kisses Hawke. Tommyspa (talk) 06:06, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

I love Aveline. I hate police, I mean.. I hate everything about them. But Aveline is a good woman, she stopped the crookedness of the force to the best of her ability, and wouldn't let shady guards walk. Strong, unshaken, no stranger to battle, able to lead men into combat with strong devotion. If she had been in Origins, she would have changed Sten's mind about women. Also, considering how little we get to interact with our companions as opposed to Origins, I'm basing this on the Questioning Beliefs quest for her, and.. She strikes me as a thinking atheist, which always appeals to me. I'd love to get into debates with her arguing anarcho-communism vs law and order.HomelyDrugAddict (talk) 05:52, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

I actually thought Aveline was rather attractive. Different, perhaps, but still quite pretty. Then again, red hair, green eyes and freckles are sort of a trifecta of oomph for me. She seemed very genuine and dedicated, appeared to truly care about her comrades, and had a well-hidden snarky sense of humor. I wanted to cheer every time she chewed out Isabela. Well, honestly, I wanted to chant "Catfight! Catfight!" But that's just an unimportant detail.

Still "I'll just point to you and say 'That's a slattern'" was painfully funny. She was fun, seemed more reliable than any of the other companions, and acted like a mature, functional woman as opposed to Merrill's adorable yet disastrous innocence and Isabela's charmingly sophomoric yet irresponsible and noncommittal 'sh**s and giggles' mentality. She was a more complete character it seemed. There was also the bonus that she had no apparent severe mental problems(Fenris), Intimacy issues(Isabela and Fenris), antisocial personality quirks (Fenris again) batsh** insane relatives (Varric) impending unholy rituals of doom (Merrill), pathological and vocal hatred for Templars (Anders) or pathological and whiny hatred for mages (Surprise! Fenris again).

Also, tough girls are always the sweetest when the walls come down. :D MathiasAmon (talk) 06:18, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

What funny places do you frequent? From what I see, she's one of the most liked companions. Dorquemada (talk) 06:41, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

One of my favorite lines in the game:
"... That bitch-born whore!"
This is what I like about Aveline: her straightforwardness.
NicKeL BreaD (talk) 08:37, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

I really like Aveline. She's a strong woman who doesn't take shit and a fierce warrior in a world of men. Plus it's funny as how awkward she is trying to woo Donnic. And if you have her become friends with Hawke she would just about walk through fire to help. One of the only normal people in it. S13Kuro (talk) 15:56, July 24, 2011 (UTC)

Why does Aveline need to conform to anyone's standard of beauty...not that she isn't beautiful in her own sort of way, like a well-trained and well-built athlete. Her personality is one of my favorite aspects about her character. (VicGeorge2K9 (talk) 22:00, July 24, 2011 (UTC))

The same reason they hate all the other DA2 companions, half assed, personality, bad writing, and mediocre voice acting.174.45.9.40 (talk) 02:33, July 25, 2011 (UTC)

Whaat? Aveline's my favorite companion. And to the above, well, that's just a bad opinion and you know it. --Reegar (talk) 03:22, July 25, 2011 (UTC)
