There is a shiled Lion of Orlais Shield. If it was made on lion's image, then where are lions in Thedas? I guess they are in Tevinter like elephants mentioned in codex. Any other guesses?78.8.132.11 (talk) 09:55, March 1, 2013 (UTC)

Africa... Probably.--ErgoXill (talk) 10:18, March 1, 2013 (UTC)
Lame joke. Also Sten mentioned wild cats in his land as adversaries during his first speaking with the Warden. Then lions in Thedas must be oo Par Volen or Seheron or Tevinter.78.8.132.11 (talk) 12:57, March 1, 2013 (UTC)
Auch. Worth a try. I doubt that. Aren't Par Vollen and Seheron jungleslike? And since Lions live in Grassy plains... Perhaps kitties like Panthera. Tevinter is based on Roman Empire... Romans shipped lions from Africa... Orlais is based on France... Any country based on Africa?--ErgoXill (talk) 16:08, March 3, 2013 (UTC)

Well, the lions do seem to be Orlesian thing, what with the statues of lions in Chateau Haine and the Orlesian shield. On the other hand, England has a similar thing with lions, so you never know. But yeah, Par Volen and the area seems very exotic, with monkeys and whatnot. Henio0 (talk) 17:07, March 1, 2013 (UTC)

I feel like Tevinter, Antiva, Nevarra, and Rivain would all have appropriate climates, so those are possibilities. Orlais seems to be obsessed with them, and Orlais was founded by Drakon, a Tevinter.ShiftySpaceCow (talk) 20:03, March 1, 2013 (UTC)

Also remember that lions have historically lived in far more northern climates than they do today; the reason why they only exist in tropical areas is because they have been hunted to extinction elsewhere. The present-day Indian subspecies of lion originally spread as far as modern-day Greece, while the last barbary lion was shot in Morocco in 1922. It's even possible there have been native lion living in Italy and Spain. Hence, it's possible there are be lions even in the Free Marches and the northern parts of Orlais. -- Gissur the Sailor (talk) 22:12, March 3, 2013 (UTC)
