Today I got myself thinking about the existence of Giants and Ghasts. Prior to MoTA, the only other "race" of humanoids we had were the darkspawn, corrupted versions of the four races of Thedas. Considering the Ghasts of DA2 and the Giants of Inquisition, do you guys think there are other humanoid creatures with primitive societies? What do you think those races bring to the formula of the Dragon Age games? I personally find it very hard to unite the lore of those creatures with what we had prior - perhaps something to do with the fade...? --Darien, The Hero of Ferelden (talk) 22:17, March 23, 2015 (UTC)

To be fair, giants aren't sapient. They don't wear clothes, use any kind of technology, or even speak. They're really just humanoid animals.
However, ghasts do wear clothes, use weapons, have some form of verbal communication, and can even use magic like human/elven/qunari mages. They also seem to have something of a primitive tribal society. I'd say they're at least as smart as mabaris, if way less charming. Whether or not they have access to the Fade depends on whether or not they dream, but given that some of them are mages, I would guess that this is the case. So yes, they probably should be considered a fifth sapient race. Silver Warden (talk) 22:52, March 23, 2015 (UTC)
They bug me, maybe because the writers ignored their existence for so long (a.k.a. came up with the idea at the last moment) and therefore they don't really fit anywhere in the lore. We have no clue to their origin or where they're supposed to be in the natural order. They seem misplaced, for lack of explanation rather than anything else. --Darien, The Hero of Ferelden (talk) 13:19, March 24, 2015 (UTC)

There are also the Fex of Par Vollen. Don't know much about them but they're described as sentient. --Keyov (talk) 03:45, March 24, 2015 (UTC)

Those didn't really show up yet, but yeah, they're another race.--Darien, The Hero of Ferelden (talk) 13:19, March 24, 2015 (UTC)
