Okay so, I KNOW I'm not the only one who's disappointed that Varric isn't a Love Interest even though there IS a flirt option with him (I had one after saving Fenryle where Varric betrays you and he apologizes afterwards :D) So I'm just thinking that maybe BioWare could just kinda make him one in an DLC pack? Kinda like how they add in new characters in others, just add in a new story line in which you actually meet the real Bianca (the presumably non-crossbow one), get to know the story and whatnot and (depending on the outcome of the quests) possibly add Varric in as a L.I. Just saying - I know I'D buy that pack without hesitation! But what do you guys think? Dragzena (talk) 19:48, November 4, 2011 (UTC)

Whoa, wait, there's an actual for real "Flirt" option with a heart icon in that? If so, the obsessive completionist in me now has to play that whole quest just for that part. As mentioned below BioWare has toyed with the idea and they were even thinking of making him an LI in the first place. Can't remember why they didn't. The source came from my blog which came from someone asking Gaider questions. As David Silverman once implied, BW almost seems racist against the thought of player on dwarf love. )

Gaider did say that they might have had something, but that Varric chose to keep it out of the story. "Regarding romance, according to David Gaider, they almost did "slip something in there". They talked about having the interrogation end with Varric meeting back up with Hawke and explaining that he’d told them everything, in which case Hawke would say "Everything?" and Varric would respond "Don’t worry. I skipped the part about us..."" This can be read about in the Varric area here under Trivia. --Ser Mea (talk) 19:54, November 4, 2011 (UTC)

Even still, they still could have added that in in the "potential" expansion if you get what I mean. I dunno I guess I just kind of feel cheated. We had awesome love interests in Origins, and really after my 3rd play through the game, I kinda feel like we were stuck with "emo, emoer, emoest" being Sebastian, Fenris and Anders respectively. To have an actually funny guy who I just know you could have some real fun romancing (cute little jibes, hidden pervy jokes and the like) rather than pulling out your hair trying to avoid rivalry points with Anders and Fenris.

Though I can respect and understand someone's want to keep a character out of the in-game "dating game" per-day, I also think it'd rake in a nice chunk of sales considering how many other fans I've talked to who share the same opinion. I dunno I just think it'd boost the rating and the sales a tad, but that's just my humble opinion Dragzena (talk) 20:33, November 4, 2011 (UTC)

Well, you do have Merrill and Isabella as an option to the emoness of Fenris and Anders. Merrill being the cute option (if you're into blood mages) and Isabella as the flirty pervy option. But I guess you don't do the women? Just like in Origins you have characters that you simply can't romance (Ogren, Wynne, Sten, Dog (obviously)) that's just the way with these games. Hell I wish I could have romanced Alistair as a male Warden, but I can't, or that I could have romanced Anders or Nathaniel in Awakening and so on, it's just the way it is. Hell, I too would have loved if I could romance Varric or Avaline, but yet I wouldn't want to. They make themselves best as unreachable. --Ser Mea (talk) 20:56, November 4, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, you do have a point there... being untouchable IS one of Varric's "big pulls" or so to speak. Thanks for your opinion!Dragzena (talk) 00:20, November 5, 2011 (UTC)

Varric already has a love interest...Bianca!--Tengu101 (talk) 01:34, November 5, 2011 (UTC)

At this point, I just have my fingers crossed that in DA3 he shows up and is an L.I. I'm personally happy with my Warden/Alistair Hawke/Anders choices that I've made for my personal "cannon" but to have my character in DA3 be with Varric? Well I'd just be the happiest little fan on the planet! Mrs.AlistairTheirin 06:30, November 5, 2011 (UTC)

Only in DAIII, and only if I'm playing a dwarf. --Isolationistmagi (talk) 21:21, November 5, 2011 (UTC)

As much as I love Varric, I feel like having him as a love interest would hinder the story, since it IS technically his story. He's telling it after all, and even without any romantic involvement with Hawke, the first part of the game shows how he tends to exaggerate when he's telling it. Varric is a storyteller, and while Hawke is a very real person in the DA universe, s/he is also very much a pawn in this tale Varric is whipping up. (Remember that default Hawke, the one that Varric ALWAYS starts his story with, is named Marian or Garrett. Marian Sue and Gary Stu, anyone? They're also always in the champion armor set with only their surviving sibling. No mention of the rest of the family that Hawke can potentially lose. It's not until Cassandra calls him on it that he backs down and starts telling something more realistic. Is he even telling the truth then?) Varric is far too biased towards Hawke already, without being romanced. (As a l.i. for DA3, though? ...Maybe. But I doubt it. Bianca is his girl.)--RedAces (talk) 21:29, November 5, 2011 (UTC)

Oh god, I never noticed the Mary/Gary thing. 72.188.148.61 (talk) 21:37, November 5, 2011 (UTC)

Well... Hawke was named chamion, so presumably the Qunari invaded. Also, the mage/templar war started, so it is reasonable that Varric's explanation was true there. Hawke has also disappeared, so that's no lie. To that end, all the important elements of his story are true. --Isolationistmagi (talk) 21:36, November 5, 2011 (UTC)

Oh, I totally trust Varric to have told MOST of the truth to Cassandra. She seemed like a pretty intimidating lady, and Varric's far from stupid. But you do see points in the story where Varric did start to waver a little when he didn't want to tell her something personal (his personal quest in Act 2). So as far as the L.I. thing goes, I have to wonder if he would have been able to tell THAT part of the story without some...embellishment. If he'd have told her at all. (To which Gaider apparently suggested he wouldn't have? But I can't confirm that.) RedAces (talk) 21:43, November 5, 2011 (UTC)

Basically, according to Gaider, they were thinking about having Varric tell the story but NOT mention his romance to Hawke until the end of the game. Unsure of how it would have played out for the player though. Xelestial (talk) 21:47, November 5, 2011 (UTC)

I guess they could have done it, but they would have had to have been super sly about it, if Varric wasn't going to tell Cassandra. That's kind of the whole reason why I don't think he'd work as an L.I., even though I love him. The entire game hinges on him narrating everything as one of Hawke's bros (no matter whether you friend or rival him). Assuming DA3 doesn't operate within a frame story the way DA2 does, he might make a decent L.I. there. In DA2, it would just muddle things. Especially the whole idea of the DLC with Bianca-the-person, because Varric has narrated everything so far, and he told Merrill that Bianca's story is the only one he can never tell. Why would he tell it to Cassandra in a DLC, then? RedAces (talk) 00:23, November 6, 2011 (UTC)

Okay -- I'm just Saying, What if they made a DLC where there are a couple more Flirt options with Varric in the PC's responses, but doesn't change the story line at all, then if the player doesn't flirt or romance with ANYONE at all through the whole game, you get the new ending with Varric, where he meets hawke and says "I left out the part about us"? Omg. Yes. v.v—Preceding unsigned comment added by {} (talk • contribs)

I think Varric will be an optional Love Interest for the Inquisitor in DAI.62.87.243.223 (talk) 09:44, November 19, 2013 (UTC)

Anders returned in DA2 and he was a a possible love interest for the protagonist, so I suspect Varric will do the same in DAI.FirstDrellSpectre (talk) 23:45, December 6, 2013 (UTC)
