With the imminent launch of tooltips on this wiki, I want to set down some ground rules for its usage.

  1. It is an process costly template so it should be used sparingly.
  2. It should be used in paragraphs, walkthroughs, descriptions and lore. For example Urn_of_Sacred_Ashes#Shopping_in_Haven
  3. It may be used in personal pages, user pages, talk, forums, etc.
  4. It may be used in lists if the list is short, for example The_Stone_Prisoner#Items
  5. It should not be used in tables, infoboxes, or any other kind of non traditional wiki layouts. If you have to ask for an exception, you probably don't need it. For example Juggernaut_Armor_Set#Details
  6. It must never be used in merchant tables until further notice. Merchant tables are amazingly processor intensive on the wiki end and I want to conduct more tests before I allow this.

Cheers! -- tierrie talk contr 08:58, February 19, 2010 (UTC)

There's still some bugs I have to work out.

  1. Some types appear in lowercase
  2. IE likes to eat up spaces after the template.
  3. Broken Links

Super cool! boo no icon pics :P but srsly, looks nice. Font looks great by the way.  Hollowness | Talk | Contr 09:07, February 19, 2010 (UTC)

That looks so good Tierrie! I have no idea how you did it but I'm mighty impressed. Friendship smallLoleil Talk 09:14, February 19, 2010 (UTC)
Question: could/should this template be implemented on the icon mini template? and if so how?  Hollowness | Talk | Contr 09:25, February 19, 2010 (UTC)
OH! and how do we get aroudn alternet text ie {{tt|Starfang (Longsword)}} to work on = Starfang, and oopps I found out the template doesn't like indents or bullets.  Hollowness | Talk | Contr 09:30, February 19, 2010 (UTC)
Good point re: alternate text. For the time being, I'm going to let it slide instead of holding this back any longer. I'll think of a way I can do an alternate name without disambiguation. One solution is for us to finally remove the links from the title. The other is to do some wiki tricks on the name and remove the text in a bracket. But they are small bugs.
So as of now, Tooltips are live. Have fun. -- tierrie talk contr 20:36, February 26, 2010 (UTC)
Since the game doesn't have icons, I intentionally left it out. I'm okay with putting it in if enough people feel that its a good idea. -- tierrie talk contr 20:38, February 26, 2010 (UTC)
One view had Icons and the other view didn't, I don't think it matters but it does fill in those simaple/basic items. Hollowness | Talk | Contr 20:51, February 26, 2010 (UTC)

Other Transformation

This is designed for Items. But at a later date, anyone can extend it to any article on the wiki as long as it uses a Transformer template. The ItemTransformer uses Template:ItemTooltip. Codices, locations, characters, creatures can have their own tooltip style. For now, use tooltips only for articles that use the Template:ItemTransformer. If you wish to use the tooltip for other categories, please make a proposal here. -- tierrie talk contr 21:08, February 26, 2010 (UTC)
