You're the Big Cheese and need to pick the finest team available from known agents, to fight the bad thing that's about to happen, and it's bad, I mean really really bad!

You can not be part of the team. So you won't be the glue that holds them together in the field, helps them support each other in the heat of battle, keeps them from going off half-cocked, or the one that solves things through diplomacy. You'll have to trust that you've picked the right people to handle any situation and work together.

Don't let sentiment cloud your judgement, this is too important - Pick your team (4) & which of them is the designated leader (assume all are within a level of each other & alive)

Mages : Anders (Awakenings), Anders (DA2), Bethany, Finn, Merrill, Morrigan, Sketch, Velanna, Wynne

Rogues : Isabela, Jerrik, Leliana, Nathaniel, Sebastian, Sigrun, Tallis, Varric, Zevran

Warriors : Alistair, Ariane, Aveline, Brogan, Carver, Dog (DA:O), Dog (DA2), Fenris, Justice, Loghain, Mhairi, Oghren (DA:O), Oghren (Awakenings), Runic Golem, Shale, Silas, Sten, Tug

KatherineMarieS. (talk) 02:49, November 18, 2011 (UTC)

Varric as lead because he's clever and one of the ones with the least amount of baggage to distract him, and he'd be the least likely to go off on his own agenda, and because he likes and is liked by almost everyone he meets, so it would be easiest for him to keep a team together and cooperative; Bethany as a mage because she can get along with pretty much anyone; Shale, because she can take damage and dish it out; and Fenris because he deals hella damage.Devilkat (talk) 03:38, November 18, 2011 (UTC)

"Don't let sentiment cloud your judgement, this is too important"

In that case I would pick any 4 soldiers who survived the battle of denerim with a trained officer to lead them, before I would trust any of the companions from either game to get an important task accomplished.

...If I had to pick from your list and assuming I could rely on his loyalty which I would not trust I would pick Loghain, the two mabaris, and give him the control rod for the runic golem.174.45.9.40 (talk) 03:46, November 18, 2011 (UTC)

I need a mage, a templar and at least one rogue.

My templar is Alistair.
I choose to have two rogues, one an archer, and one for melee and everything else rogues do. My archer is Varric. If I can count on him to kill his own brother, I can count on him to do anything. His silver tongue could also come in handy, which is another reason I choose him over Nathaniel (and, Sebastian has too many morals that could complicate things.) My other rogue comes down to Leliana and Isabella. Leliana isn't likely to betray me, so she gets the nod.
So, who is my mage? Tough choice. Velanna is a loose cannon. Anders is an abomination, no matter what he says. Wynne has too many morals (see Sebastian.) Finn and Sketch don't deserve consideration. That means it comes down to Morrigan, Bethany or Merrill. Merrill's blood magic could be her undoing. Morrigan doesn't play well with others. So, Bethany is my girl.

That makes my A-Team Alistair, Varric, Leliana and Bethany. FWIW, my B-Team would Aveline, Nathaniel, Awakenings Anders, and Shale. LVTDUDE (talk) 04:16, November 18, 2011 (UTC)

Team that reminds me closest of the A-Team: John "Hannibal" Smith - Loghain? (don't really know another Stratagist) Templeton "Face" Peck -Anders (Awakening) H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock - Varric [Possibly Anders/Vengeance (DA2)] B. A. Baracus - Sten

Team I would Use:Morrigan, Isabela, Oghren (Awakenings), Sebastian Sir Fritz (talk) 04:50, November 18, 2011 (UTC)

Wouldn't Oghren make a better "Howling Mad" Murdock? He is a berserk-er, and always yelling, "Asschabs!" ;) KatherineMarieS. (talk) 05:17, November 18, 2011 (UTC)
Good Call, I was switching around characters too much, I guess.Sir Fritz (talk) 05:24, November 18, 2011 (UTC)

I always tend to play with a warrior-rogue-mage-mage roster, find it very effective, so my team will be:

  • Sten - in the culture, which values skill above all, one gets appointed as leader of the Beresaad for combining a strategists' talent and martial prowess both. He's the leader.
  • Varric - basically a two-in-one. A silver tongue and vast net of contacts to acquire intel, and Bianca-the-wunderwaffe for a designated marksman.
  • Morrigan - arguably the most powerful mage in both games and their DLCs. Given Flemeth's training, study of her grimoire, shapeshifting ability for spying and engaging in melee, she is simply the most universal character - a one-woman-army.
  • Anders(DAII) - also a two-in-one. While Morrigan will fit the role of controller/debuffer, Anders will be good as healer/AoE-damager, switching between Vengeance and Panacea modes. He can hardly be confused while in the Fade, has Grey Warden training and that extra motivation to fight tyrants and opressors.---Algol- (talk) 05:49, November 18, 2011 (UTC)

Boring "Follows orders and gets things done" team: Loghain as leader, Sebastian, Wynne, Mhairi. Quirky "Ragtag bunch of misfits that still gets things done against all odds": Varric as leader (can shmooze/cheat his way out of fighting and other tricky situations), Janders as mage (has a panic button - Justice, less likely to burn own fingers with own fireball, like Awakenings' Anders), Oghren (for his brand of diplomacy - aka berserker's axe to face - for when Varric's diplomacy fails), Zevran (because every team needs a backstabber-poisoner). Dorquemada (talk) 08:57, November 18, 2011 (UTC)

My leader would be Varric, because he has the charisma and charm, a certain knack for gaining approval from others, being a merchant means that he has financial and social intelligence and experience, making him an excellent diplomat outside of combat. It's a bit of a dilemma between Sten and Justice, but I would have to pick Sten, because although Justice is perhaps one of the best tanks for taking damage, since being a corpse he would shrug off blows that would kill a normal man, but for that same reason he would slightly unnerve his comrades in the time that strength of will and focus is needed most, but Sten would be more of an inspiration since his warrior code, skills and unshakable faith in the Qun would repress any fear of death or dishonour, a grand oak standing tall in the chaos of battle. The only reason why he could not be the leader is because his views are too dogmatic, and a certain amount of flexibility would be required to get the best out of negotiations. Third up would be Shale, because for the simple fact that she a walking, lumbering Behemoth of Rock, Steel and Lyrium. Takes most of the damage, and dishes it back out in fist and feet loads. As for mage, that's a difficult one: Morrigan is no team player, sucks at negotiations and her motives and allegiances is always questionable; Wynne is exceptional at offering support, both magically and spiritually, but sometimes she can be too moral, which can get in the way of progress; Velanna is the same as Morrigan, except we already know why she is so unstable and unworkable, which makes her less credible; Anders' ideologies will always cloud his judgment, and at times will lead him to insubordination; So my mage would be Bethany, because she is cool and calm in the face of things, knows when it is wisest to act and when to not act, and she is also altruistic, she always wants to help her friends and comrades through everything, despite everything. Not to mention she is a powerful elemental force mage(Nothing like raining down fire and gravity on suckers!) So that's my A-Team: Varric(the charismatic, diplomatic leader), Sten(the inspirational figure in battle, Shale(Takes and gives damage with pleasure) and Bethany(the helpful, smart mage) SunflashTehMace (talk) 10:36, November 18, 2011 (UTC)

Team Leader : 1)Varric - among the most intelligent and also street wise, silver tongued, can open any lock & disarm any trap, liked by everyone, looks out for his teammates, and isn't afraid to get his hands dirty. 2)Bethany - handicapped by a lack of ability choices, but doesn't carry the liabilities of other mages. 3)Fenris - lyrium infused death dealer and can force confessions, does have a temper but can be controlled by Varric. 4)Sigrun - a Warden's enhanced physique, plus Legionnaire abilities, plus rogue abilities. KatherineMarieS. (talk) 13:53, November 18, 2011 (UTC)

My team leader would be Loghain just because he's one hell of a leader and that he know more about battle than most of any characters in the Dragon Age universe. I think that Nathaniel could be a good addition to the team since he is a warden that I think Loghain could work well with. After I would take Wynne because she's going to be a good adviser for Loghain and her healing spell are very helpful. The last member of my team would probably be the Dog (DA:O) because I can't see nobody else that could work effectively with Loghain without being at each others throat all the time.

So my team is : Leader) Loghain - A strong and intelligent leader who can get thing done. Teammate 1) Nathaniel - Because he's a good archer and a strong Warden and he can get along with Loghain Teammate 2) Wynne - A good adviser for Loghain and have useful healing spell Teammate 3) Dog (DA:O) - A good partner that will never let you down and one of the few that could work with Loghain.--Itrandir (talk) 14:20, November 18, 2011 (UTC)

Loghain (leading), Aveline, Bethany, Leliana.

Loghain’s brilliant and a born leader, even if he was a paranoid (or was he?) jackass in DA:O; Aveline’s tough as they come and would keep the party in line (there’s gonna be some personality clashes); Bethany can drop a fireball on anything in the blink of an eye; and Leliana can get just about anything done. Plus it’s a nice balance of sweet and sour, blunt and diplomatic. And it’s possible that either Loghain or Bethany is also a Grey Warden, so even two archdemons strapped together wouldn’t be much of a problem. HELO (talk) 16:05, November 18, 2011 (UTC)

my team would be Varric as leader and face for the team due to his good standing in the merchantile community and his skilled diplomacy, Leiliana for her skills in infiltration and information gathering as a back up to varric's network, sten for his cool head and knowledge of military tactics and bethany (as a warden) as she has both healing and combat skills whilst not having the emotional and psychological baggage of anders. Varric would lead because although sten is most likely the better tactician Varric has the best understanding of both the general public and the criminal element whilst still maintaining a positive attitude, a cool head and a sense of honour. --178.105.240.155 (talk) 20:58, November 18, 2011 (UTC)wolf-warden

Alistair (leading), Aveline, Varric and Wynne. Alistair is actually a decent leader (especially if he's hardened) as long as he has someone to keep him thinking with his head and not his feelings. Varric is savvy in a lot of ways and gives good advice without being as irreverent as Isabela or Zevran. Aveline is tough and focused and would be good at keeping their minds on the job. Wynne is a powerful mage with a lot of experience and can keep the others in line in a different way than Aveline can. It's a setup that makes for a good mix of both skills and the ability to go for an hour without wanting to kill each other (seriously, anyone who puts unhardened Leliana and Morrigan or Janders and Fenris together without Hawke or the Warden keeping an eye on them is just asking for trouble). Loghain and Sten are both too stodgy and would have trouble keeping the others loyal, Oghren's hilarious but has too many bad habits, Fenris and Janders both have too many personal issues, Zevran and Isabela take almost nothing seriously, Velanna and Morrigan has trust issues (both giving and getting), Bethany and Merrill are both too naive (it's not as obvious with Bethany, but it's there, in Ch. 1 anyway), and Carver and Sebastian would get on everyone's nerves with their whining and preaching, respectively. The Dogs, Justice, Shale, Nathaniel, Sigrun, Leliana and Anders are all worthwhile choices, but in the end I think the setup I picked has more chemistry. As for the others, I haven't played their respective DLC's and thus can't really comment on them. (talk)

As much as I like Alistair, Aveline actually has better leadership skills. Let's face it, she is willing to call out Hawke and put Isabella in her place, and all the city guards love her. Varric is great guy to have as your right hand, but not my first choice as a leader. Capable? Probably, but being a supporter is more in his comfort zone. LVTDUDE (talk) 00:50, November 19, 2011 (UTC)

From the description of how this team thing would work it would be more of akin to Charlie's Angels than The A-Team. ;) Zambingo (talk) 02:28, November 19, 2011 (UTC)

Zam's team: using DA2 specializations
  • King Alistair (weapon & shield, defender, battlemaster, templar)
  • Wynne (arcane, creation, spirit healer, force mage)
  • Varric (archery, sabotage, specialist, bianca)
  • Isabela (dual weapon, scoundrel, subterfuge, swashbuckler)

The Seneschal's Angels : next week's episode, "Murder by Knight" ;) KatherineMarieS. (talk) 03:32, November 19, 2011 (UTC)

Loghain leads (he's still a great general,) Varric would give ranged back-up, Vengence (I refuse to call that thing Anders) for damage and shale to protect Varric and Vengence.CrowInvictus (talk) 06:16, November 19, 2011 (UTC)

Welp. I'd probably have to go with a warrior, a rogue, an offensive mage, and a defensive mage. For the warrior...I'm gonna go the boring route and say Alistair. I want a team that's relatively (comparatively speaking) emotionally stable and professional. And Alistair's the least likely, in my opinion, to freak out and go off the deep end. He'd also be the leader of my group.

For the rogue, I'm gonna have Varric help out. He's (generally) even minded and Bianca is rather versatile. Isabela and Zevran aren't exactly trustworthy and Leliana is kinda cuckoo for me. And Sebastian is a biiiit too pious.

Healer? Wynne. The Vengeance-laden Anders is a bit too rash and hot-headed for my tastes.

And the difficult one for me is the offensive mage. My personal favorite, Merrill...kinda gives in too easy to temptation. Morrigan is a little Darwinistic and would easily clash with this team. I haven't played through the DLCs for Origins, and I have barely touched Awakenings, so...no go there. So...Bethany. Primal magic and force magic? I'd go for it. Mahare (talk) 13:37, November 19, 2011 (UTC)

Doesn't it suck that the only mage with her head on straight is unusable by us after the deep roads? Bioware bastards. LVTDUDE (talk) 19:51, November 19, 2011 (UTC)
It's like, the Warden/Hawke could keep Morrigan, Merrill, and (mostly) Anders in line, and probably be a really good influence for them...but the Warden/Hawke aren't there. So Morrigan will remain survival of the fittest, Merrill will consort with demons unchecked, and Anders will keep on kabooming holy buildings. C'est la vie. Mahare (talk) 20:23, November 19, 2011 (UTC)

A warrior , a rogue and two mages . For the warrior I would probably pick Aveline , a born leader . Loghain could be a choice as well , but I don't like him . The two mages would be Bethany and Wynne . They both have power and are very loyal . For the rogue , I choose Zevran . He is cunning , clever and I think that the three ladies would have a marvelous time with him .

JackTheGray 23:45, November 19, 2011

--- Gonna go with the four characters I trust the most to get the job done.

  • Loghanin as leader. Say what you will he gets results.
  • Sebastian as archer, arguably the best one in the series.
  • Shale as tank, noone can take as much damage as her.
  • Bethany as mage, can heal teammates and can dish out damage.

--The Shadow User (talk) 12:37, November 20, 2011 (UTC)

All the choices I've seen so far are SO BORING. Let's think outside the box of PCs and companions for a second. To that end I would choose Flemeth as leader, then Andraste, then Dane and finally a well trained Varterral.

Now here's why. Flemeth doesn't want the world to be blown up in flames and neither does Andraste, so their ends are more or less the same. Dane is legendary as being one of the greatest warriors ever to walk Thedas and there are no accounts of him ever having died(to my knowledge.) And who wouldn't want a giant five leggedd immortal Arachnid that is trained to do whatever they want? Basically, all immortal personages, and all top tier BA. I know someone's going to gibe flack over Andraste, so I'll just say it now that she could probably reincarnate if she wished to. --Isolationistmagi (talk) 16:30, November 20, 2011 (UTC)

Or we could just go with Andraste 2.0. With Flemeth's shapeshifting that's 2 sets of fire breath. Actually, now that I'm on that line of thinking... wake up the remaining Old Gods. Put Flemeth in charge, point them at the enemy, and *run*.
Or just have 4 Flemeths, she can probably do that. Which eliminates any personality conflicts or worries about who leads, and talk about a cohesive team that keeps the big picture in mind, yow! ;) KatherineMarieS. (talk) 18:39, November 20, 2011 (UTC)
The OP didn't say we could choose characters not in the list above. Hence, boring? How about I choose Superman, Wolverine, Dark Phoenix and Merlin. That will be fun. LVTDUDE (talk) 19:48, November 20, 2011 (UTC)
Maybe the Lords Juss, Goldry Bluszco, Brandoch Daha and Spitfire?Hmm... actually, they would need to sop fighting King Gorice XII first. Other then that, I think they would be the ultimate A-Team in any fantasy. --Isolationistmagi (talk) 12:42, November 21, 2011 (UTC)

I only need Chuck Norris.--Ncrsmellsfunny (talk) 19:00, November 20, 2011 (UTC)
