::This always struck me as something they wrote once and then forgot about by the time they got around to writing DAA, especially because it was just something in the codex that never actually came into normal gameplay experience. If you're the kind of person that reads every codex entry (like me), the idea that some darkspawn can talk would be taken for granted by you. However, DAA comes around and everyone is terrified and amazed that these darkspawn can talk. Even post-DAA I've seen many arguments about whether one should or shouldn't let the Architect live based on the fact that he can talk and is therefore nearly unique. The way the DAO codex reads is that it's normal for emissaries to talk, and emissaries aren't exactly rare; from memory it's something like "one of the few darkspawn capable of speech" as if it's a standard thing for them. :::It's certainly a mistake they made but this is one of the few retcons, I will call it that for lack of a better term, that I approve of. Although it does complicate the origins of emissaries and those concepts making talking darkspawn unique and rare works better plot wise. [[User:JoKr]]

In the codex entry for the Hurlock Alpha in Inquisition it mentions a talking Darkspawn. Is it possible that the talking darkspawn mentioned is a Disciple or something else?Deanscig (talk) 23:36, January 21, 2015 (UTC)

The emissaries are mentioned in the origins codex to sometimes communicate with other people, although this so rare that few see it happen seeing as the darkspawn have little to speak of. I suspect this is the same thing. Caspoi (talk) 11:28, January 22, 2015 (UTC)
This always struck me as something they wrote once and then forgot about by the time they got around to writing DAA, especially because it was just something in the codex that never actually came into normal gameplay experience. It's certainly a mistake they made but this is one of the few retcons, I will call it that for lack of a better term, that I approve of. Although it does complicate the origins of emissaries and those concepts making talking darkspawn unique and rare works better plot wise. User:JoKr
