Okay, this isn't a query as to what is the strongest nation in Thedas. It's pretty well known that it's Orlais, but with the civil strife and all the other things going on, I could see them being suspectible to an invasion and loose. It's hard for a nation with no authoritative figure at the helm to win a war. But nevertheless, what nations do you think that could beat Orlais right now. Not saying that it would happen but just speculation. I think Ferelden is too weak, especially after the blight, but you never know. Par Vollen with the Qunari could beat them, but they're at a constant battle with the Imperium, as for that, Nevarra may be able to do so, and the Imperium isn't what it used to be exactly.
As well as this, which nation currently in your opinion is the strongest? I personally think that the Qunari with Par Vollen are the strongest right now.
Note: This isn't saying as to who will, or if it's IN their best interests to do so, but what nation do you think could bring them down and why. And if not, why not? Lazare326 (talk) 12:29, May 3, 2014 (UTC)
In Dragon age 2, Fenris says that the Qunari could crush the Imperium if they wanted but he feels like they are waiting for something big to happen first (He doesn't know what.) With that said, I'd wager the Qun is the strongest faction going. (Lon Dubh (talk) 13:24, May 3, 2014 (UTC))
Before 9:37 Orlais, Nevarra and Tevinter were the strongest nations of Thedas, but now Orlais gets weaker with the civil war. Nevarra has a dying king and heir not interested in the crown, such nation is weakened. Tevinter fell to qunari except for their capital, because the capital was strong enough to prevail. Tevinter still has enough gold, magisters and troops to constantly fight with qunari and crush slave rebellions, which are not organised. I believe that qunari are just playing with Tevinter and build bigger armada to conquer it, but such preparations require time and resources. Nevarra isn't visited in DAI, nor Tevinter, so the Arrival of Demons won't touch them, unless they are going to be stopped in later games. For now I think Tevinter is the strongest because Orlais has civil war and Nevarra has a dying ruler.FirstDrellSpectre (talk) 15:24, May 3, 2014 (UTC)
I think Drell's view is the most accurate one here, but I'd put Tevinter just below Orlais at the minute. Depending on how much destruction occurs in the Orlesian Civil War, I'd say Tevinter might take Orlais's place, though this wouldn't mean they're in a good position by any stretch of the imagination. Discounting the Qunari, Ferelden seems to be the only nation with the potential to become a great Theodosian power, though this is dependent on strong leadership (from Anora, a hardened Alistair or the Warden as chancellor/consort) and no invasion from Orlais (in other words, keeping Gaspard off the throne!). Even then, however, it would seem that the low possibility of a Fereldan heir makes political conflict, maybe even a second civil war, inevitable. So, yeah. Andrastian Thedas is pretty much screwed. 16:55, May 3, 2014 (UTC)
- It wouldn't be second civil war. Before Loghain's civil war, there was a civil war after Arland's death which lasted a decade. You say about Andrastian Thedas, but DAI story happens in Ferelden and Orlais, when Andrastian nations of Anderfels, Antiva and Navarra don't appear in the game, which means they won't be touched by the demons from the Breach unless BW tries to end demon problem in later game.FirstDrellSpectre (talk) 17:04, May 3, 2014 (UTC)
Just because those nations aren't visited in Inquisition doesn't mean they aren't affected by the fade tears. Anyway, I'd say it's a toss-up between Tevinter and the Qunari. Possibly the Qunari are the single most powerful military force, but if they tried invading multiple nations, several human nations would ally against them. Even if they only focus on Tevinter, other nearby nations might help them if they try a 'serious' invasion, as it is in the best interests of any human nation to stop the Qunari. The Qunari are a bit like the darkspawn in that respect, they may be the single most powerful force, but they have no allies and thus could never conquer Thedas unless something happens to drastically increase their military power. Perhaps an influx of Qunari dreadnaughts from wherever the Qunari originally came from? Maybe that's what they're waiting for. Silver Warden (talk) 19:43, May 3, 2014 (UTC)
While Tevinter and the Qunari (particularly the latter) are far more powerful than any other single nation with Orlais gone to hell, both are isolated and kept in check by the other. Should the Qunari attack anywhere, Thedas (Tevinter included) end up unifying against them in another Exalted March. Tevinter, meanwhile isn't powerful enough to attack the Qunari (they generally seem to be smaller, and Qunari seem to have total naval supremacy), and should it attack anyone else, again triggers an alliance of (White) Andrastrian nations against it, and opens itself up to Qunari attack. Excluding the superpowers, I'd say the most powerful nation is even chances the Anderfells or Nevarra - both have strong military reputations and, at least compared to Ferelden, Orlais and the Marches, a lack of screwed-up-ness.
